Firstly, get her to see her DR (if she has not done so already), he may do an ultrasound, pap/internal, whatever he may see necessary. If everything is ok, than, it's just her body and hormones. I started to menstrate when I was 11, and mine have always been very heavy, long and close together (I'm nearly 30 now, have 2 kids, and can't wait for menopause!!) I wouldn't suggest these meds whose main purpose is to shorten periods. This isn't natural. If the Dr. suggests this, get your daughter a 2ND, and even 3rd opinion. The female body works in cycles, and unfortunately for us, periods are part of it. Keep some ibuprofen and chocolate in the house, and tell her to do at least a bit of exercising during her period. I HATE the thought of any kind of movement this time of the month, but I try to even walk a bit, and it does actually help relieve symptoms to a tolerable level. Good luck to you both!!

Is it an abnormally heavy flow? There are many possible underlying reasons for an excessively heavy menstrual flow. If not diagnosed, some of them may cause more health problems. Not to mention that if the medical problem is diagnosed and corrected, often the heavy menstrual cycles also stop.

The underlying causes can be hormonal imbalances, fibroid tumors, an abnormal thyroid condition, or a host of other reasons.

Some people just bleed worse than others. There are birth control pills out there that help with bleeding and put her at less risk for certain types of female cancer. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is a great birth control pill for heavy periods.

eventhough she isnt sexually active you might want to look in to putting her on birth control. A lot of them have been proven to help regulate your cycle, make it lighter , and help menstruel cramps. check w/ an obgyn to see wich kind is best.
