I have always been one who is curious about the world. I want to learn and to know more things in the hope of better understanding who I am, where I come from, and what life is all about.

What I don't understand is why others do not share this same passion. Why can some people be so content not to learn more about life? How can anyone be satisfied that constant evaluation of one's belief is not necessary to being complete?

Ahh my friend, join the lonliness of the world open to the lateral thinker.....
There are 2 types of people in this world who clash intellectually.
1/ The nesters
2/ The pioneers
Nesters seem to outweigh the pioneers by a ratio of 5/1 ???
It is easier and safer for the nesters to keep their consciousness free of outward influence and if one explores the question why deep enough one will find predominately that upbringing plays a great part in shaping how an individual thinks.
A family that does not nurture the growing wonderment of a child will surelly raise a robot in its own likeness.
Answer this.
Where did you learn to think laterally ?

Because most people have built their idea of the world up by assumptions, usually those that have been instilled in them from very early ages. For example, the idea that everything is made of matter. This is only an assumption, a theory that will one day be disproven and replaced by something closer to the truth, yet also probably not true itself. Just as Newton's laws were.
The people with these assumptions know that they really don't know anything, that there is no certainty and the thought of questioning their pretended certainty frightens them. Thus, instead of being a skeptic, they simply exist, like an inanimate object, not knowing what or where they are.
It has been said often enough, but ignorance truly may be bliss.

This is an excellent question. And I don't pretend to have the complete answer. I hope to add some clues to your own theories and help. You are what I call a supreme being, your values and morals are based a certain level. Whether or not it came from somewhere, most of the time its a parent, sometimes it can be a teacher or an event in life.

Some humans, have values and morals that surround themselves these I like to call Chumps. They don't see thing the same way as you and me. They don't worry about global warming and wars, but concentrate their worries around their benefits.

Its almost like our minds are grand and present life is boring therefore we seek better understanding. They are satisfied with their small lives as I am not. I understand that something big or bigger must exist out there somewhere and I will not yield to any options, no matter what they tell me.

And lastly don't forget that we all serve a purpose here on earth. Can it be that my purpose is to grow with knowledge? Can it be that some are here to experience social lives? Care free of what the universe holds. I'm not very religious but I do believe in experience and knowledge.

Think about it!

Could you ask a harder question next time, Justin? The reasons why some people do not have a thirst to learn more about themselves, others, and life in general has a million different answers. However, I think it is due mostly to the person's upbringing and close influences they had growing up. I think it more than likely that these poor people (in my opinion) were surrounded by equally close-minded people. This is why certain prejudices still abound in today's society. This is not to say that people cannot change. It is up to people like you and I to encourage others to try new things, get a new perspective, etc. Of course, none of us is perfect, and never will be - but we can keep trying to learn as much as possible!

TO be honest with you, most people don't care. They may be afraid of the unknown or maybe they feel that life is hard enough without requiring them to utilize their cerebral cortex! Nevertheless, think of it this way:
some of those same people wonder why everyone else is not passionate about humpback whales, or arts and crafts or wombat hunting. Truth is, if we spent all of our time wondering and asking all the questions that are out there, we wouldn't have time for anything else!
Nevertheless, I must agree with you. People don't spend enough time thinking about the bigger picture--and even more are confused about how religion fits into their life. They don't think about a constant reevaluation of what they believe and how that affects their lives. What we need here is some healthy, out-of-the-box thinking!
GOOD QUESTION!

Some people are scared to question. Discovering something important about your life can have big effects on it and many like the comfortablelife they have made for themselves.

Others just are not very bright and cannot hold a abstract thought in their heads (I'm not being rude about anyone it's just the truth). They cannot question anything other than what their day to day lives hold for them.

And others just are not that curious.

I think what is more important is not to worry about anyone else and concentrate on what you want to learn about. If someone doesn't question, that's fine. Just get on with it yourself.

The Universe is full of basically nothing.
Those with nothing else to do worship nothing.
There is absolutely nothing you can do when you find a new Star or planet.
There is absolutely nothing gained by discovering the age of the Universe or when it will likely end.
Astronomy is a science for those with a lot of smarts and no common sense.
There is absolutely nothing gained by gazing skyward. If you see an asteroid zooming in on Earth, Who ya gonna call?
Geology is where it's at.

Because they are too intelligent to realize that they can never explain the wonders encompassing the universe per se.
I love appreciating the universe but i don't excel in physics or astrophysics to technically explain figures, movements, and dynamics of each heavenly body. I just know that they amazingly follow a coordinated pattern like something, someone is maneuvering them organizedly.

i am absolutely not a person like you are. different people have different brains and personalities. i am just content to be who i am and live the life that i have. i don't feel like it will affect me as a person one way or another if i learn more about the universe. just like some people read a lot and some people don't. or some people love math and some people don't. it's just the way things are.
