sorry jryan, but youre wrong. Payton is what id expect from somebody who wasnt even alive in 1985, as im sure you werent. for those of us who WERE alive in 1985 and old enough to comprehend football ..... we know that the Bears defense lead that team, and if the defense lead the team then its logical that the defensive leader was the most prominent. that man is Mike Singletary, not Walter Payton.

In terms of prominence it can only be #72 DT (and sometime FB) William 'The Refrigerator' Perry. If you asked people in the UK in 1986 to name one NFL player it'd be 90% Perry I bet. Obviously Payton, Singletary, Marshall, Dent, McMahon etc etc etc all played bigger parts in Chicago's glory but Perry was THE face of those Bears.

Hard to say, just an excellent team - Dent & Singletary for me were the shining lights. That year the Bears were untouchable in most areas on the field.
