There are 9 in the fellowship to counter the 9 ringwraithes or nazgul. They are the four hobbits: Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, the dwarf Gimli, the Istari Gandalf, the Humans Aragorn and Boromir, and the elf Legolas. Tom Bombadil is an incidental character along the way, not part of the fellowship.
Nothing happens in the narrative in Mordor in the first book, however some things happneing there are known. The shadow is growing stronger, the 9 nazgul have ridden forth from Minas Morgul in Mordor, and Gollum was captured and brought there where he was tortured for the whereabout of the ring.

Frodo, Pippin, Merry, Sam, Aragorn, Arwen, Elrond, The Ringwraiths/Nazgul, Bilbo, Gollum, Gandalf, Sauron, Saruman, Gimli, Boromir, Legolas, Galadriel (elf-queen) and her husband who I believe name is Cereborn or something like that, Isiliduris mentioned, Tom Bombadil. There are a variety of characters at Bilbos long expected party. The most important thing that happens close to the beginning of the book in mordor is that the fire of the volcano is awakened meaning the sauron who everyone thought was dead is alive and back at work pretty much.

People who force young ones to fill out nasty reading logs should have to read creative answers. Turn this in to your slavemaster:
Boromir is a great warrior and hermaphrodite. He makes passionate love to Legolas but Tom Bombadil is jealous. He is sly, cheerful, drunk and impulsive.
Legolas is a bandy-legged thief. He only uses Boromir for his body. Even so he is courageous, opulent, and farcical.
Gimli is the madam in Mordor's only house of ill repute. He is a castrati but has lost his voice. He is melancholy, roly-poly, smarmy and groovalicious.
Tom Bombadil lives in a tree to protest Boromir's rejection of his love. He insists that he is heterosexual and frequently visits the elfin whores in Gimli's house of ill repute. He is grumpy, screwy, malicious and gap-toothed.
In Book 1, the mayor of Mordor sent the vice squad to close down the house of ill repute, but Boromir came to protect Gimli's honor and ended up slicing off the mayor's ear. Legolas visited him in jail but only wanted drug money.

Tell your teacher to put that in his/her pipe and smoke it.

Try reading the book for crying out loud. It is quite obvious that if you don't know who these characters are, that you haven't even bothered watching the movie to at least fake your knowledge of the book, much less actually read the book. Nice to see Tom Bombadil end up on the log since that character was (conveniently for teachers) left out of the movie so your teacher will be able to tell if you read the book or not.
