I beleive That Mclaren use to pull the strings on Sven.
He is not the right man for the job as he cant even pick the best inform goalkeeper in England at present (David James ). I want us to win something but the way he manages our team I dont think we will anything under his reign ( I do hope he proves me wrong - But he Wont ! )

I just think the managers all make the same mistake ''picking 11 star players'',it just dosent work, you need a balanced side, that means 5 or 6 stars, then the others working for them, every successful team as its no nonsense grafters.

Not all that sure. Ok, so the results haven't been that good, and the performances have been stuttering, but let's look at some other facts.

He has jettisoned some big name players and put a couple of other noses out of joint, which was what Sven's Gentlemens' Club needed. He was Man Utd assistant manager in a time when they were winning many things. Good experience. Also from his Man Utd days he learned a great deal from Alex Ferguson and learned to handle big name players. Good experience don't you think?

When he arrived at Middlesborough, he took a bunch of boozing, plodding duffers and got them to win their first ever trophy. He took them to their highest ever league placings, and also laced them with success in Europe. When did they ever manage that with Bryan Robson in charge? He can thus make teams transcend a history of underachieving.

Finally, he was involved with England throughout the Eriksson era. This is the continuity the FA wants. He also brought Terry Venables back into the fold. Wasn't HE also the man all the fans wanted?

I don't know so much about picking David James. I don't think his concentration is all that good at international level. You could see this in Euro 2004 when we conceded 6 goals in 4 matches. He makes defenders nervous. Picking in-form Ben Foster was a good move.

I don't know if he is the best man for England, only time will tell. However, in 1980, the Italian FA picked a relative unknown in Enzo Bearzot to run the national team. People frowned on him the same way they are now frowning at Steve McClaren.....and he walked off with the 1982 World Cup.

Don't think Mclaren pulled strings when Sven was there but i think basically hes a yes man for the FA to bully and control as they see fit, this is why they got sven in the first place.
Strong- willed managers who cannot be controlled by the FA are what England need, a manager who will drop a player if he plays bad and not just pick players out of reputation or because previous managers picked them.

England seems doom to failure.

England fans expect so much and get so little.

The guy knew it was time for Beckham to leave, that was positive. However, he still doesn't have the balls to show the dead weight on the team the bench, ie, Fat Frank.

At the World Cup, he was fired up on the bench, on the touch line, in his training kit, as Sven looked on is his nicely made suit on the bench. I thought that was positive; I mean, I thought Stevey would put some fire into these guys after he took over.

But no, McClaren gets the job and becomes Sven.

O'Neil would have been a better choice. I hate Big Phil but he would have been a better choice if he truly wanted the job.

Either way, McClaren is becoming Sven, a talented manager on paper who has a team of class footballers who he can't get to play on the same pitch together. Just like Sven, McClaren becomes a scapegoat for England fans who don't realize the state in which their national team is in.

The position is the one of the most high profile and well paid coaching jobs in the world. The England coach doesnt have to be English. Why do the FA want to reduce the chances of a winning England team? Why did we choose a man who has only a handful of seasons experience in the Premier League?

McLaren shouldnt be sacked -its not his fault he is not up to it, the whole of the FA should be.

I have to confess I never did think he was right for the job, but I don't blame him...I blame the FA.

The fact is there are no current English managers who can compete on the international stage. Managers from other countries can do so because they have so many years of experience in not just managing foreign players...but winning things with them!

Compared to the Italians and Brazilians and others...we have little experience of winning things...in fact we have little experience even of expecting to win things.

The FA is so out of touch and riddled with committee politics that it is the single biggest cause of international football failure that we have.

Disband the FA. Create a consortia of british industrial leaders to hire and fire, and drop this ridiculous notion that the manager has to be English...The players have to be...NOT the manager!

no i think he's good for our team . Unlike sven his team isn't picked round a past his best beckham . He actually picks inform players . The england team is picked by the F.A any way they just use the manager as a front man . But mclaren is a yorkie so i think he'll do his own thing which can only be good

I don't think he is but I hope he proves us all wrong. Not much time left... Euro 2008 is not that faraway !! I think he is a manager with a capital 'M' but England needs a manager with capital charisma and calibre and I do not think he has either.... otherwise we would have already seen England performing world class !! Just look at Portugal hammering Brasil 2-0 today !!! That is what England needs to be able to do.

I just don't rate Steve McLaren. Simple as that. We'd have more chance of winning something under Malcolm McLaren! I believe Massimo Maccarone's verbal onslaught the other day wasn't just sour grapes. He gave us an insight into what McLaren is really like - two faced.

Hello,
I solidly agree with you, Mclaren is not up to the task, even after whatever he would have us believe he can do, well He can't,I would much rather the F.A. went all out for a truly football committed manager, and I would like to offer up my choice for England Manager...... Would Mr Steve Coppell, please go to the FA AND GENTLY REMIND THEM ALL THERE OF HIS HISTORY IN FOOTBALL in ENGLAND., agreement anybody? Tony M
