Bread machines can do lots of things..and make lots of different kinds of bread. I have several "bread machine cookbooks" with directions for making different breads. Some can make jam and cakes, I don't do any of those though.

I have one I bought at Wal-Mart for about $40, it is a Sunbeam. Since I don't make jam or cakes or other things in my machine, I don't need one that does that. I primarily use my ABM (automatic bread machine) for kneading and the first rise. I put the ingredients in and set it on dough setting. After it kneads and the first rise is accomplished, I take the bread out and let it rise the second time in the bread pan. Then I cook the bread in the oven, not in the machine. I do not like the way it looks, or is shaped in the machine. I have had a bread machine for at least 10 years... I won't be without one. If you need more help let me know ;)

A bread machine can of course make ALL kinds of breads, and bake them as well. I also use mine to knead dough for pizza, muffins etc,. the bread has the homemade taste of a bakery. I have a sunbeam model # 4810 and just love it i just add the ingredients, push the button and leave it. very simple and clean up is easy. only worth it if you like bread and like to bake.
