Gordons answer could not be any more wrong if you tried. The firing order for all General Moters 8cyl is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 the number one cylinder is the driver front and the rotation you will have to determine by removing the distributor cap and rotating the engine in the correct direction with the crankshaft bolt.

The firing order on all Cadillac 425's is 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8. The passenger side front cylinder will be 1, and the driver rear will be 8, going back and forth. The distributor starts at the very top right when facing it from the driver side.
It's also usually stamped somewhere on the top of the block or the exhaust manifold.
