but he won't give an ultrasound until the third visit which is in three months. Is this normal? I had my first ultrasound for my daughter at 8 weeks. then at 5 months and so on. Should i advise her to go to another doctor? That first ultrasound is crucial right? they check all the organs and brain. Any opinions on this delayed ultrasound?

Actually I wish more doctors were like hers. Unfortunately early ultrasounds can cause more stress than good sometimes. The textbooks say a baby's heartbeat should always be seen by seven weeks but so many women are nine to ten weeks before even seeing the baby so ultrasounds can really cause them stress.

Really the only reason doctors do early ultrasound is because they want to date the pregnancy but if you are reasonably sure on dates, there is no need. Also an estimated 1/3 of women have a tilted uterus and will look one to two weeks behind with the transvaginal ultrasound. Now if she is having pain, an ultrasound can help identify if there is a problem but without that, it's just better to wait for ultrasounds.

With my first child I went to a midwife and they didn't do an ultrasound until 20 weeks. I had other problems with them as well. They ignored problems that I was having and I wasn't happy at all after the delivery. My second pregnancy I went to a doctor. They did an ultrasound on the first visit and it was lucky they did. My baby was badly deformed and wouldn't have survived outside the womb so my doctor recommended I have a D&C. If they had waited until 20 weeks, it would have been more heartbreaking to find out I wasn't having the baby than it already was. But, some doctors only do the ultrasound at 20 weeks because most insurrance companies will only cover one ultrasound. I would find a different doctor anyway.

It is the ultra sound between 18 and 20 weeks that they check the organs and for defects. She should get an afp test at about 16 weeks and that will help with checking for downs syndrome and I think something else. All Drs. are different. My dr. did an ultrasound on the first visit to confirm the due date. She can always go to a pregnancy spa and pay out of pocket for an ultrasound.

Your doctor can detect the heartbeat as early as 9 weeks, but they usually do not do an ultrasound until at least 12 weeks.

You are right.I shouldd advice her to go get an ultrasound with another doctor. It is crucial at this point to see if the pregnancy is located where it is supposed to be located. The checking of the different organs and brain shoul be conducted from the 20th week and on. With this first ultrasound the Dr. has to see if there are one or more babies and if everything is in order.Lets not let her wait 2 long to do this.Besides...seeing the baby for the first time will reassure her of her status and she will feel much more confident of her pregnancy.

They have been with reference to the superb option with the two mine. With my first they stated he may be 7 a million/2 and he became into 7-10. With my secon they guessed at 8 lbs and he became into 8-12. nicely i assume my 2nd became into extraordinarily much a pound off. the two my teenagers have been approximately 2 weeks early. they're estimating this toddler to be approximately 8 pounds on June thirtieth, that's whilst i'm getting precipitated. wish there the superb option. They needed to do a c-section if he have been given around 9 pounds simply by fact I had issue handing over my 2nd. nicely, congratulations. with a bit of luck he won't be to special, yet 2nd toddlers in many cases strengthen in length, as does the incontrovertible fact that it relatively is a boy and not a woman.

I dont know. I had an ultrasound at 6 and a half weeks and my doctor was able to see the heartbeat. Werent able to hear it but she noticed it beating. Second opinions dont hurt, if she's concerned then maybe its best in her interest to get a second opinion and ease her mind. But all doctor's are different.

It's okay. With both my pregnancies, I didn't get my ultrasound done until I was 5 months, and I only got one done.

I thought the first sonogram--if it's that early--is just to make sure how far along you are and how many babies you're carrying. I had my first sonogram when I was nine weeks along because I was bleeding. The only thing they checked for was a heartbeat. It was the second sonogram that was so involved with all the measurements they took.
