Georgia supplied many men to Confederate armies. It was a major food producing area for the Confederacy. As the war progressed it became the home of a large number of war related industries. Atlanta was a major transportation hub for the South. The whole state was a major part of the Southern war effort, and when Sherman wrecked a large part of it the South soon collapsed.
