You can live on that, but if you live in the suburbs in some blue state that's far from driving a Ferrari and spending winters in the Bahamas.

You'll get no sympathy from the 90+ of the American people who have watched their real wages fall while the rich (or at least well-to-do) have made all the gains in this supposedly "booming" economy. Especially with employers being allowed to renege on pensions and health care agreements workers entered into in good faith.

And Bush wants to give you more tax cuts? Sorry. You can choke on your Perrier for all we care.

beacuase they think that the more money you make the more "they" are entilteled to

which is why i hope i have a comfortable amount of money in my life but not so much that the government think ive got to much so they "need" to take some off of me to give to welfare programs

gooood point jesi - exactly why would those in govt want "THE PEOPLE" who have a right to pursue happiness, to make more then they do. heres what i dont understand. its the right and ambition of everyone to make money, to be sucessful. i cant think of anyone that wnats to be poor and a failure

those who work for there money and if possible invest into a business of there own should be-able to keep most of what they make to make somemore

but i understand why poeple ask this question, for me i ask "why is it ney york investment bankers get 2 million in a Xmas bonus" where the frig does that money come from. but i dont live in a big city an NEVER will. i live in what can be called country. though i only made 51k im still somewhat struglling, helps still to be young

Because most familes make under $100k a year, and if you work a full time job for $7 an hour thats more than minimun wage, thats $280. a week and thats below the poverty line.
Its not driving a Ferrari, but its a trip to Disneyworld instead of your mother in laws trailer in a campground. And our money is worth the same in a red state as it is in a blue one.

They're just looking at the numbers. Only a small percentage make that amount of money. That's a fact. Whether it's what you would call "rich" is another question. But, the majority of Americans do not make that much, so those who do are, by definition, the wealthiest.

BTW, as a "liberal robot" -- I didn't send my tax cut back (I got $60, whooopeeeee!). I donated it to a local foodbank to help feed people in my neighborhood who don't make $200K a year. Or even 20K.

The per capita personal income of the United States is measure of private wealth obtained through dividing the United States' entire aggregate income by the number of persons. In 2005 the total aggregate personal income in the United States, the combined income earned by all Americans, was roughly $9.7 trillion ($9,705,504,000,000). Divided by the approximately 293,655,404 persons, this yields approximately $33,050 of personal income per individual. So, $200,000 looks to be fairly wealthy to an average income earner in the United States.

Democrats don't lump people making 200k with the wealthiest.

That's just the point at which a graduated tax will begin.

BTW- wall street investment bankers wouldn't accept a 2mil bonus. The head of Goldman Sachs got a $54.3 mil bonus. And he added nothing of value to the economy. All they do is arrange deals and transactions.

Well..the answer is that Democrats and all members of Congress make roughly 233,000 a year..the difference is Democrats are willing to tax themself too....

I appreciate the point your making, but very few people even couples are at that income level..not policemen, soldiers, nurses, fireman, teachers etc... (co-incidentally they trend democratic?)

You couldnt afford the Ferrari AND the Bahamas...but life is about choices right?

Well, I work 5 days and sometimes six, I earn top hourly wages and receive a bonus from time to time. $200K is a he**of a lot more that I make. And anyone who makes that much, are considered to be wealthy. Blue, Red Yellow or Green state. Period....... Do you?????

And if they have kids, they are probably just making it. They are already in a killer tax bracket, so I hope to god they have a lot of write offs. What is with all the people whining that they should be working a walmart to understand long hours. Everyone I know that make this kind of money works a minimum of 75-90 hours a week. People at walmart should work this hard.

well... the simple fact is... the median household income for America is around $45,000

and only 20 percent make over $80,000 a year per household...

so those making $200,000 are making over 2 times more than 80 percent of the population...

now cost of living is a factor granted... but it's still far more than the majority of America...
