i havent seen any monsters, black smoke maybe , but not monsters.have you?

I don't know why everybodies calling it a monster... it was really just a living black smoke thing.

because the "monster" was first introduced by the crashing sounds in the jungle and falling trees, most fans took to calling it a monster. this was only enhanced by the fact that whatever it is killed the pilot when they found the remains of the front end of the plane. (don't monsters kill? what does that say about the people on the island who have killed?)
when it was finally revealed to be a plume of smoke flitting around the jungle, many fans modified this name into "smoke monster."

there was something that would always crash around in the jungle in the first season but they haven't heard it in awhile....
