Even if you had another place lined up...even if the money wasn't an issue. Why does it sometimes feel like breaking up with someone?

Yes, but life deals you a deck of cards, if you play them right, it will be all good. I had to leave a job after 16 years. Due to the new federal medicaid program, my job was going to be terminated. I found a job, same pay, same hours, but a little different. It was the best thing I ever did. You know, when you do a job well for so many years, they think you can have more and more work. And you just keep accepting it. However, when your the new guy, you have what is listed on the duties list. It is cool and a lot less stressful!

Yes, I was FORCED retired in 2001. I did NOT want to retire but the town retired me just about 3 weeks shy of a year of me being out of work after suffering a heart attack on the job. I wanted to return to work but the doctor would not clear me for work until my heart was fully better. Needless to say it will not ever be better. So the town retired me and yes I miss my co-workers and actually the job itself.

Definitely, especially when you've developed friendships there and feel some loyalty. Even when I was not happy with my job and I had something better lined up. Change can be hard.

Loss of relationships can be tough to adjust to, initially. But if your skills are not fully appreciated, then your intuition lets you know that it's time to move to greener pastures.
