I am 35 1/2 weeks and I have been hospitalized twice for pre-term labor. I am now dialated to 5 cm's and I lost my mucus plug within the last week and am having contractions, but not like the ones I had when I dialated from 4 to 5 cm. This is my first baby and I am told I have an easy dialated cervix. Anyone relate or have a guess of when she'll come according to expirience? Its so hard to prepare for anything when everything is uncertain. My doc suggested an amniosyntesis, anyone had one b4??

I have never had an amnio but I did experience labor that dialated me over the span of a month. Truly it is hard to tell you when she will come. It could be anytime. I know how frustrating it is. I dialated to 6, 2 weeks before I went into active labor with my son. I hope all is well for you. Of course you should probably get the amnio if doc recommends it but I probably would not. I am not sure I see the point so close to delivery. Oh by the way my son was very healthy.

I would not get an amnio this late in pregnancy. I had one with my 1 baby because they said he looked like he had down syndrome, they poke a big needle in your stomache in hopes that it won't hit the baby. Amnios are very risky do your research on them. I was mentally tortured for about 72 hours because they told me to go home on bedrest because it's a possibility I could miscarry. If your 35 weeks don't risk it your baby is really big right now and 37 weeks your considered full term and you could have the baby. Even at 35 weeks if you had the baby with all the technology your babies chance of survival would be great. Hang in there at least your not far from 10cm.

?????????????????????
Find another doctor.
At 5 cm dilation you should be in childbirth mode.
Once the water breaks that's it "baby is a coming"

As for an amniocentesis, this is usually in the 18-22 weeks of pregnancy and has a high risk (normally performed if problems happened in the past). This is a test to make sure the baby is fine (10 toes ans tens fingers so to speak).

They can induce a delivery or perform a "C" section in some cases but at 5cm you would normally be in the delivery room with your feet up.

yes i had an amnio but it was like in my 16th week of pregnancy. They thought they saw something when i had my ultrasound. everything was fine THANK GOD.
I think u need to call the doc or hospital and ask for advice. if u are 5cm then u should be having him\her coming up real soon. good luck and God Bless

When I lost my plug with my first, I had my baby 4 days later. And I also have a weak cervix and with my last, also had preterm labor. I'd say you'll be having the baby VERY soon. Why does the Dr. want to do an amnio now? Would be useless since you'll be giving birth so soon.

They are going to check for lung development w/ the amniocentesis, which will determine whether or not you can be delivered. You should definately have this done. Make sure and take it easy too, to prevent going into labor again. You could go at any time.

amniocentisis is usually done between 18-20 weeks...if u are 5 centimeters they should have admitted u already, they usually admit u when u are between 4-5,thats strange...all u can do is ask your doctor because i think u should be in delivery now..good luck!
