We're evolutionarily programmed to want to care for our young. That's why their faces are round and fat and their eyes are big and they smell good. Their cries are demanding and we are drawn to them by a force of nature.

I think that babies are appealing because you see a new miracle that just came into the life of this person, or if you have any relatives with the baby, its part of your family. You can see it as a chance to experience parenthood before you have your own, like in my case.

The fact that they're like little copies of you. If humans didn't have wants to reproduce, they wouldn't, and the whole species would be gone pretty quickly.

Of course, modern times have changed the environment we live in drastically, so many people no longer feel like having babies. I'm sure that'll change eventually.

You're hard-wired to find them appealing. Genes that contribute towards you finding babies appealling (and thus caring for them) tend to succeed and be handed down.

Head to body size ratio...

That is, it is the normal instinct to protect the youth of one's
own species ... and the way that we most easily determine
someone's infantile status is by comparing their head
size to the rest of their body.

Indeed, that's one of the reasons we find other animal's
young so cute - and we stop finding them cute when the
young have no discernable head (or it isn't disportionately
sized to its adults).

Now, don't get me wrong - there are other features,
particularly in the face, that are sized differently from
the way they would be proportionately with the adults, but
the first thing we see is probably the strongest hook
to our baser instincts.

The twinkle in their eyes, their wonderful smell, soft skin, cuddliness, cute smiles, little quirks, and their amazement of the world around them. I just love my 10 mth old, I give him at least 100 kisses a day! lol!

Their delicateness never ceases to amaze me and i have seen many in my profession. But the thing that gets me in is often that baby smell ( not the diaper) but that milky aroma they have.
They invoke the protector role in me and as much as I hate to see politcians kiss babies i think that qwuite often it is an obsession that is hard to control

They are really cute, helpless, and there's nothing inside them that's bad yet. Like, they love everyone they see. They're just little bundles of cuteness and happiness. Do you not like babies or something?

For me its their innocence. They are these tiny little things that are just soooooo innocent and peaceful, with no knowledge of what the future holds. They just need love and protection.
