I'm a vocal coach who has been recruited to help some young girls get ready for an upcoming beauty pageant. I have all but one girl ready - and all I'm lacking for this one is what to put her in.

She's 10 years old and singing "Candle on the Water" from Pete's Dragon. She's tall for her age (5'3"), blonde hair and brown eyes.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what she should wear? Or does anyone remember what the costuming in Pete's Dragon was like (screencaps would be lovely!)?

Thanks!

OK - thanks thus far!

For the record:
* She looks TERRIBLE in green!
* She is only ten - no chest to hold up a strapless!
* Color suggestions? Other than green please!

I LOVE that song! It's perfect for a pageant!

She needs to be first and foremost, age appropriate, regardless of her height. She'll be on stage alone. I would avoid anything strapless, one-shoulder, etc. Length should be knee or tea. She's in that tricky age division. Go simple. If you go with a dress, I would recommend the Character Shoes (Dance supply compaines carry them). The beige color is bes, unelss her dress is white, then the shoes should also be white. The beige is good because it doesn't draw attention to her feet. These are worn alot in interview and swimsuit.

Color should be flattering to her. Her attire should compliment her and not be distracting from her voice. Ivory, coral or a pink would be good colors for a blonde, especially one with fair skin. If she is one of the "California blondes" (medium to dark skin tone) she can pull off white well. Turquoise is a good "universal" color.

The costuming on Pete's Dragon is horrible for a pageant. I wouldn't go there. If you wanted to go with a tie in, go with a sailor dress or skirt & top combo. Navy or white pleated skirt, boat neck top in red and white or navy and white. Remember that horizontal stripes will add width visually. CWD Kids has a good selection. Storybook Heirlooms also has a good selection of "dressier" items. I still think a solid color "floaty" dress would be your best choice.

I saw the following on e-bay, something along these lines would be good...but maybe without the crinnolin.

or this without the flower petals in the hem...http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-VICTORIAN-LILAC-LAVENDER-FLOWER-GIRL-PETAL-DRESS-10_W0QQitemZ140011504761QQihZ004QQcategoryZ105501QQcmdZViewItem

A dress that's cute....maybe a strapless....w/ frill/lace and the end of it. Something very cute but w/ sophistication

I would suggest something that would make her stand out, like a sparkling dress. Nothing too revealing, though..

Good luck !
