President James Buchanan was gay, but the country acted like his partner didn't exist. They instead considered his neice to be his "first lady." I've always thought that was strange.
I guess we'll know what to call a president's husband as soon as Mrs. Clinton gets in office. :-)

Rules of etiquette have the equivalent term for lady being gentleman for a male, so I would guess he would be called the First Gentleman; same thing if the president were a female with a male husband.

I guess he would be. But I sort of think it's time to get rid of that role, straight or gay. The president's partner is their own person and has every right to continue their life and pursuits. The Manie Eisenhower model, standing by her heroic man, while he has a mistress or two is dead.

Oh wow, that would be amazing.
But I don't think people would recognize him as anything, because it seems like the majority of society hates gays. Maybe he wouldn't have even been voted for president, since other minorites in race and gender have never been president yet.

well, if they ever legalize gay marriage then, yes, he would be the first man- same as if a straight married woman were to win
