Since it's youtube it uses flashmovie, you should try decreasing the quality: right-click on the movie, go to quality and drop it down a bit. That should improve the framerate. Medium is almost visually indistinguishable from high, low is still acceptable.
You could try changing your video driver - contrary to popular opinion, an older driver often works better than a newer one. Try reducing your desktop resolution too - if it's too large, it can take longer to render (especially true of flashmovies). Also, close down any programs you aren't using, even if they don't appear to be doing anything. Try changing the bit depth (colour quality) between 16, 24 & 32 if available.

I think we need to define older. I have a 3.2 ghz system and two "older" systems at 800 mhz and 1.2 ghz. They both can run video just fine without the choppiness. It could be choppy because it hasn't fully been loaded and your playback is actually faster than the download. This only happens if you have a slow or poor internet connection. If this is the cause, the only fix is to wait for it to fully load before playing.
Another tip is to clear your temporary internet folder storage space. Goto internet options under "Tools" when you open up Internet Explorer. Under "Temporary Internet Files", click Delete Files. This clears up some cache space.
You may also want to shuttoff programs running in the background. Some of these programs running in the background are shown on the lower right next to the clock (if you're using Windows XP). I usually try to keep it to a minimum. I'd try shutting down unnecessary software that might be running or loaded. You can also use the Task Manager but only if you're familiar using it.
Hope this helps. Otherwise, if you mean old as in pre-2000, it's probably time to get a new computer.

WOW lady, if that's what you are - you've already given your Son a complex. The assured incident that may make him hate women was you doing what you described above. Not pornography. Why in God's name do you have a NANNY cam on in a 17 year old boy's room? You need therapy, and fast, not him. He's perfectly normal. You threw the computer in the garbage??? His Dad had to "constrain" him? Wow that's extreme. You're 100% out of control and out of line here. He's angry with you because you're supposed to be the adult, and you're acting like a mad woman. I hope he survives his childhood and learns somehow to be happy in spite of you.

Many different ways, depending on what you have:
A) New Monitor
B) New Graphics Card
C) CPU? Depending on if speed is affecting quality.

Adding memory might help but more likely you need a newer/faster computer.
