I found them both really disturbing and sad......there is also another book called, "A Man Called Dave" or something similar to that which goes along with those two books. You should read that one as well.

Well, my friend read A Child Called It and when she was describing it to me, she kept saying that it was really good but really sad. Its almost so bad that you have to keep reading because you want to find out what happens. Sometimes it makes you wonder how people can do such cruel things to kids..

Those books are horribly sad. When I was reading the first one, I had to stop sometimes b/c it made me sick to my stomach. I felt so happy when he was finally taken away from his family. I wanted to beat the crap out of his dad for just letting that stuff happen!! I pray that the saying "What goes around, comes around" is true for him mom and dad. However, he is doing well, considering what has happened to him. I believe he has become a motivational speaker.

I have read all three of David Peltzers books and yes they are sad but to see what this guy went to and overcame is a testiment to him! I give him props for getting through it! Read .... Running with scissors and Dry by Augusten Burroughs they are really good and on the same lines.

I read them. I agree with you. They were very sad and depressing. Anyone who would do that to their own child and favor their other children is a monster!

I read "A child called `It`", I wish I didn`t. Please, don`t get me wrong, I thought it was written honestly, from the heart. In good style, too. But, the theme....... Most of the time I was shocked, furious, and at the nearly end-nearly depressed.

I agree to the things the others have said and I'd like to add that I can't understand the people who lived next door to the family - they must have noticed the way the woman treated her kid - why didn't they do anything?

They were sad but very insightful and make you see that people sometimes have a reason for acting the way they do.

I thought it showed the triumph of the human spirit. He's quite successful now. I'm sure it took a lot of therapy to heal though.

it's so depressing and inhumane... i don't think a normal parent could ever do those horrors to his/her own child... it's too painful to even think how hurtful and humiliating dave's experiences were...
