i own an rca lyra(kind of outdated 2+yrs) it's 20gb and can be replaced with a laptop hard drive. It plays various music/video/picture formats.
I also own an old 128mb mp3/wma player
they were fairly cheap and way cheaper now
all i do where ever i am is drag and drop files into it, no installation
so simple

my friend is a moron and gave me his ipod shuffle, which seems only good for data transferring
i started installing itunes until it said they would be spying on everything i do
yup, all set

anyway these things can function without itunes

it's pretty obvious ipods only exist off hype they create
cleaver marketing schemes
now every idiot thinks he's cool

i've been to the other side and it's 50times cooler
simple,inexpensive,way more functions

ipod's are for people who don't know anything else exist

okay, wrong choice in words
they're not difficult to use
they suck to use BECAUSE
you're forced to install itunes in order for it to function
so, i cant just drag mp3's into it

and if you read those big group of words i personally usually check okay at
it says
you agree to let us monitor what goes on on your computer whenever for no reason at all

the whole ipod community is corny
i just wanna plug it into my usb
and add files to it, and play it
i guess itunes sucks and ipods are useless without itunes so they suck too

As far as I know, ipod's battery has an extermely long life-span, and should only need to be recharged. Of course, with every recharge, it will lose some measure of power which is not very significant. I wouldn't even consider changing your battery... by the time you absolutely need a new battery, you might as well buy the NEWEST and LATEST mp3 player out.

Well now thats your opinion, I've tried a regular Mp3 player and that thing broke on me and all of the songs would go corrupt and the thing would fall apart. Where as my iPod Nano has never gone wrong for me!

The truth is it's all about what your used to. I personally have an ipod and use itunes and it could'nt be easier. My brother, however uses a sansa player which works withwindows media player. He thinks my software is confusing and I think his is. The reason is we've just gotten used to the software we're currently using.

I agree, very limited to their propitiatory software and downloads.

I own a Toshiba Gigabeat S, no propitiatory anything and I love it.

I got the 30GB and the 60GB Version.

My iPod loaded with iTunes helps me pick out my clothes for the day ... tells me what I should make for dinner, and how high to keep the heat thermostat.

Thank you iPod!
