I'm writing a short sci-fi story set in the future. There are two groups of humans, one group has microchips implanted in their brains that make them perfect workers. Together they have created a shining utopia without crime, war, disease, or poverty. But they have no free will, no emotions, no religion, and no love. They are basically robots.
The other group of humans represent the resistance. They don't have microchips and are normal, and of course, flawed. The leader of the resistance is captured and is about to have a microchip implanted, but before-hand he is asked : "What's so good about free will? Every ill aspect of society is caused by it. If you can give us a satisfactory answer, we will let you go without the implant."
I'm asking you...How would you answer this question if your life depended on it?
Thanks

Make your hero headbutt the guy planning on chipping him. Then have him say "is that good enough for ya?" as he walks away

Make them put it in before he can answer. Then for some strange reason he dies. Then as he is lying there they see a light coming off of him. Suddenly he turns into a being made purely of light. And you need to make it as to where one person is doing htis to the people and he is about to turn the resistance leader into a robot,

First, Your story is...., well, not too original......:-))))))).
Second, who captured The Resistance Leader? Brainless robots? Why would they want to know anything about freedom? So, I think You lack the third party: free-thinking, wicked oligarchs?
Third - Your q is a hard one, but I`ll try:Free will includes responsibility. It`s always a challenge. We`re born with it, but we have to fight for it in many ways, so we don`t forget about it. It`s what makes us Humans.

Yeah, I like what the above head-butting thing for the sake of drama.
But, if that's not what you're looking for, then have him reply something along the lines of: "What is 'good' but a petty, subjective, illusory concept fabricated by cavemen to make death worth achieving and life worth wasting," or, "A man without free will is but a space-monkey. He is trained to flip switches, pull levers, and push buttons without any understand for the implications of his actions so that he may sacrifice his life for the prosperity of a colony that will someday be dead."
Hope that helps.

It's part of who and what we are. It makes us individuals, and it's what makes everyone different. You couldn't be in charge, or know how to implant those microchips, if you didn't have any free will of your own! Why don't you make me one of you, if I mean anything to you, instead of implanting that thing in me?

It is this very flaw that makes it so worthwhile. Through our sadness and pain we are able to understand what joy and comfort are. We learn to appreciate our friendships and the qualities which we find in other people and things. Through all these experiences we come to appreciate the world as it is and to cherish it as it is. It is not worth being if you cannot feel, think, express joy, hope, sadness, and experience so many other emotions that show we exist.

Art.
For art can only come from diversity, from passion, from those flaws you mentioned. Without it, we're doomed to uniformed existence, which is the life of an inanimate object, pointless to itself.

Its what we do and what we are! No free will is no mind, no logic, no thinking... and so on! Free will means using mind, using logic, using braibpower. The Good overrules the bad by millions.
