I can only speak from personal experience. I had problems with my period up until I was 18. Sometimes it wouldn't happen for months and when it did, it would last for a week or more and was accompanied by severe cramps, the kind where you can't even move. It turns out I actually have a medical condition called endometriosis, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endometriosis and that's what was causing my problems. Once I had surgery, I took birth control pills and that really helps in period regulation.
You most likely aren't sick with anything. It could very well be that your hormones haven't adjusted yet which takes some time during puberty. If you really are worried, you need to talk to your doctor (or someone at your local health clinic) and see what they suggest you do.
Be strong!

When a girl first starts her periods it takes time for them to regulate to a say a 28 day cycle. However I would ask Mother to make an appointment with an OBGYN just to make sure

It is not serious, however I want you to see a Gynecologist, she is in a better way to examine you up or sort out your problem if any.
This is the best advise I can give you as an MD.

HI. IT IS COMMON THAT YOUNG WOMEN JUST STARTING ARENT REGULAR. THIS MAYBE SOMETHING THAT YOU NEED TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOC AND SEE WHAT STEPS HE/SHE MAY WANT TO TAKE TO GET YOU STRAIGHT.
