The most economical way is to contact the local Bar Association, usually at the county level. It costs around $30 for 1/2 hr consultation with attorneys whose names are available via "rotation". The assoc takes the money. Let the attorney understand your situation and make a recommendation. Find out the fee structure as well. If you have time, tell the person answering the call that you want to see 2-4 attorneys (pick men or women if you have a preference) so they can try to accommodate you. You can gain very different perspectives of how attorneys work. Some just want you to engage them and some tell you they are good at battles while some will tell you they are good at mediation.

Don't just take others' recommendation.

When you do go thru it, you are looking at minimum $10k and as high as $30k for ordinary couples per person depending on the complexity and financial issues (how much debts, properties, etc.)

check the yellow pages, divorce can be expensive, 50quid for them t send you a letter to phone them. If you have no kids under 16 go for a quick divorce - cost around £80 in Scotland- both parties have to agree.
