A transitive verb is a verb that takes an object. eg I kicked the ball. Kicked is the verb, and what you kicked is the object. So this verb is transitive

An intransitive verb is a verb that doesn't take an object, eg I laughed.
You don't laugh an object, you just laugh, so this is an intransitive verb.
