Some people believe Global warming is a hoax. Typically republicans and they are more for the corporations and industries. Who of course provide a whole lot of pollution, and are big contributors of Global warming. So by that they assume you are not just against global warming, but against them as well.
Liberals are more likely to worry about those things and be active in trying to prevent further damage.
Seriously don't sweat it. Most of the people on here who act like that do so because they don't have any real answers.

Because the people you are speaking to are apparently familiar with a little thing know as the truth. The so called environmentalists are on record as saying the Kyoto Treaty is more about "leveling the playing field" than it is about the environment. Why else would the treaty exclude India and China? Does pollution from these places not affect global warming.
Global Warming is a farce perpetuated by socialists scientists who did not come to their conclusions using scientific method but by using "consensus". Translated that means just another idiots opinion.
Republicans are leery of global warming advocates because we feel that this has become the socialists religion. You are not allowed to question any portion of the theory because if you do you are violating an article of faith.
We make no apology for questioning your opinion using an unproven theory in which you seek to enhance government control over every aspect of our lives and which will cause an intense drop in our standard of living.
We do not need to know your views on taxes, your global warming statement says it all.

Well, Rush Limbaugh has been beating the make-fun-of-global-warming drum for a decade at least now. The corporations have poured millions of dollars into suppressing and distorting information about global warming. Most Republicans these days are people who don't read factual articles about, well, anything. As Colbert said, if it's from a book, [they] don't trust it, [they] trust [their] gut.
Their gut tells them that whatever corporations want to do it is good and should be unfettered and any exercise of the economic and environmental rights of any other actor involved is illegitimate and antibusiness. Why does their gut tell them this? 70 years of brainwashing, including very scary periods when people publicly lost their jobs and their freedoms. It's why 'socialized medicine' sounds like a bad thing to these same people, as we have lower lifespans compared to 17 countries that spend less than us on health care, while providing health care to their citizens.

Global warming is this decade's abortion - it's an issue people just refuse to compromise on. On the one hand, you have the "we're all gonna die and it's all YOUR fault" liberals preaching an increase of 2-11 degrees, and on the other, "the environment is not our concern, don't blame me or i'll lose money" conservatives.
Good luck trying to get sense out of either group.

I know, it's sad, right? Environmentalism has always been labeled as a liberal issue, when it should be an issue that crosses all lines, don't you think? I don't care what you call it, our earth has some issues. People should start living greener whether or not they "believe" in global warming.

Some extreme conservatives hold the simplistic belief that "if you arent with us, you're against us." Yeah, it's a lousy way to live in a democracy, but there you are. So the second you say "I believe in X," whether that might be the possibility of global warming, or gay marriage, or leaving Iraq, they somehow hear you saying, "Your ideas are stupid and wrong!" and respond thus.

A lot of conservatives believe that many in the ecology movement merely use the environment as a pretext to burden free enterprise and to interfere with private property rights.

You should find a new circle of friends. I'm republican, 90% of my friends are republicans and I don't think I've heard them refer to anyone as a communist, come to think of it I don't remember anyone with any affiliation refer to anyone as a communist since the eighties. You don't sound like you were around then. I've, also never heard anyone refer to someone as a "fxxxxxxing eco -liberal" either.

No, but whenever I mention in church that we have a responsibility to be good responsible stewards of the earth God gave us, the predominantly conservative Republican group all get quiet and exchange the old 'she's just a little dotty, poor thing' look.

No, someone can't explain the deep seated opposition to everything not proposed by a republican.
