everyone here has given you a lot of information about what an abortion is... and some are throwing terms you may or may not even know.. if you do not know what an abortion is? I have to assume that a lifer (pro-life) or "those others" (pro-choice) is all new too... those are the two opposing factions involved one side wants women to be able to have a choice to abort a fetus... that involves a person's personal beliefs as to whether or not she believes life starts at conception (when the egg is fertilized) or when the heart begins to beat.. or when the fetus (baby) can live outside of her body (almost birth) and depending on this? whether or not she is "killing" a baby... or if she does not believe that life has "begun" and is comfortable with her choice... the other side? they want the opposite... for no woman to have any option of terminating a pregnancy (abortion)
now maybe you at least understand some of what was said, if you did not know what some of those bickering people were talking about? the hatred and pure venom? well, this is a very heated topic to say the least.. and both sides feel they are right, well the fanatics do at least... and there are fanatics on both sides... so, this may not have been the best "group, place" to ask?
they have all given you the "don't let her.. she is killing another person".. and "it is her choice"
if your sister has decided she need to have an abortion and you have questions about her reasons for this choice? you should talk to her... I do not know how old you or she are? but I do know a baby is a LOT of work, responsibility and if a person is not ready, well I guess she is past the talk of "just don't do it" so she has some tough choices to make... she might even want and need your input.. as her sister, friend, family... and though there are other options open for her, there would have been a reason for This particular choice to be even thought of...and those would be her reasons that only she can explain, just as this is her choice... it is her body, her life and sometimes? we have the awful responsibility of choosing one or another "evil" of any or all options to choose from... you may not like her choice... no one might "like" it.. but the reality is? it IS her choice... and this may be one of those times where you agree.. or not.. and especially after reading answers like on here to you...but, that is why I said to talk to her... she can explain to you why she is doing this.. and she can do it a whole lot better than one here... because again, only she knows the reasons...
whatever the outcome is there? I am sure it is not an easy load your sister carries... she might need to lean on you a little here...
I want to say sorry for all the bs you got back from this... you need to talk to your sister... you need to hear what your sister has to say.. not these people...
good luck
god bless
to all you others out there answering this girl's question? why? why on earth would you word those answers like that? and no.. I do not mean all of the answers...some of them are very helpful.. but come on?! the second answer said it best.. so I am not going to try to say it again..... did you even wonder while you typed away how old she is? she may be an adult.. she may be a child! do you think you scared her into being a pro-life? well the scare part you have down... I do not know about the rest... unreal..... go debate the who's side is right and who's side is wrong elsewhere.. she did not ask that! just what it is... and I bet she didn't need to hear it the way it was thrown out there...

"Many people are unaware of the realities of abortion. What is done in the procedure?
In an early abortion, the abortionist uses a procedure called D&C, short for the dilation of the cervix and the introduction of the curette. The baby's body is cut apart piece by piece in the womb, then reassembled after removal to be sure there are no pieces left in the mother's womb. Remaining body parts could cause blood poisoning and/or hemorrhage.
In a first trimester abortion, the procedure is much like D&C, except instead of a sharp curette, the abortionist inserts a plastic cannula into the dilated uterus. The tube is then atached to a suction machine. When turned on, the machine empties the uterus. The innocent baby's body is torn by the suction as he or she is being pulled through the hose.
After 12 weeks, the baby weighs about 1 pound and his or her bones (including the skull) are calcified. The abortionist uses the D&E method, inserting a pliers-like instrument into the uterus and seizing a leg or other part of the child's body. The abortionist then tears that body part from the baby using a twisting motion. The baby's spine is snapped and his or her skull is crushed to remove him or her from the mother's womb. The baby's body parts are then reassembled and counted.
In a partial birth abortion, the abortionist pulls the baby out of the womb feet first, leaving the baby's head in the birth canal. Then, with the child's arms and legs kicking, the doctor stabs him or her at the base of the skull and removes his or her brain with a suction machine. After the brain is removed, the baby's skull collapses, rendering the child dead.
In the last 3 months of pregnancy, an abortionist performs a hysterotomy. This procedure is similar to a caesarean section. The fetus and placenta are removed and the incision is closed with stitches. The baby is then killed or left to die by neglect."
Basikly killing the unborn child.
Sorry to tell you that.
I am all 4 agenst it.

An abortion is the termination of the baby.
I'd lend you my advice right now, but this is such a touchy subect and the least of your worries is hearing so many people tell you how they feel about it. What you need to do is talk with your parents and have your sister talk with them also, I'm assuming or guessing that they may not know about it. And even though she does have the right, she also needs to know how serious it actaully is. It's not something easily handled or done, it comes with risks other than the hard fact that it is taking a life. It's someones life.
Go to planned parent hood, or call up your local hotline, and ask or simply go to your parents. This is not the place to be asking such a delicate and touchy subject.

An abortion is when the baby is aborted from the mothers body. This basically means they "kill" the fetus and remove it from the mothers body before it has time to mature into a baby! Abortions usally take place in the first trimester. They don't use surgery for this but rather other methods such as a pill etc.

How old are you?
This was a bad place to come and ask. You will have Lifers sending you propaganda with abortion pictures and telling you to stop your sister because it is murder and some of them are so hateful and will say hateful things. There are lifers I RESPECT that just put an opinion out there but believe in the end the women makes her decision and must live with it. They tend to be polite about it also but on here you do not get alot of maturity in that aspect.
Look online and get info. Do not ask here. Talk to Planned Parenthood. They will tell you stuff. You will have nothing but hassle about god, murder blah blah blah
HEY MARY IS AHMAZING before you tell someone to learn to spell you may want to practice what you preach

An abortion is when you end a pregnancy. I myself am pro-life, but I'm not going to tell you to stop your sister, obviously it's your sister's choice if she wants to have an abortion. Ask your parents to tell you more about how abortion is done.

Abortion - Many young women decide to have an abortion because they believe it will be a quick resolution to a difficult situation. In a survey taken of women who have had abortions, 63% of them felt “forced” by other people into the abortion, and 74% of the women surveyed said they would not have the abortion again. Here is a story of a young woman who was pressured into having an abortion by her boyfriend. Are you experiencing this kind of pressure in your life? You have the power and the courage to understand the consequences of your own actions. Explore your options. Then decide what the healthiest option is for you. "Look inside REAL Choices" by Frederica Mathewes-Green, 1997
Just the Facts on the changes developing in your body are worth investigating.
What types of abortion procedures are there? There are two methods of abortion:
Surgical abortion is the most common type of procedure. This is an invasive medical procedure that is done in a hospital or abortion facility. There are different methods of abortion that are performed throughout all 9 months of pregnancy. It is important that you know the exact method involved in the abortion and the possible risks and complications that can occur. To be informed read the information under “Surgical Abortion”.
Chemical abortion, also known as RU-486, is a combination of pharmaceutical drugs that can be taken orally or by injection to cause an abortion. The process requires multiple doctor visits and induces severe cramping and bleeding which women experience on average 7-30 days. There is the possibility of adverse side effects and/or other complications. See Emergency Contraceptive Pills for more information.
Are there complications? There are risks involved, and it is important that you understand how the complications and side effects can impact you. There are many possible physical complications which may include: infection, damage to the uterus, infertility, increased risk of future miscarriages, premature births, and an increased risk of breast cancer.
"Incomplete abortions occur too. Read Gianna Jessen's life story, who is the survivor of an incomplete abortion."
Psychological complications are often experienced by women who choose abortion. After an abortion, both women and men can experience: depression, low self-esteem, crying episodes, nightmares, anxiety attacks and difficulty in personal relationships. For information about how abortion might affect your future click on “Psychological complications”.
Are there long-term effects from an abortion? The after effects of abortion can be painful. It is normal for women and men to grieve after a pregnancy loss by miscarriage or abortion. Hope after abortion will help you understand the healing process and receive assistance for you or someone else dealing with a prior abortion experience.
There can be long term effects from an abortion, here is a woman's experience.
We almost aborted our oldest son.
Here is another woman's account of a regretful abortion.
There are emotional responses, referred to as Post-Abortion Syndrome, that include grieving, self-destructive tendencies, and substance abuse. For more information on PAS see “Post-Abortion Syndrome” by David Reardon, Ph.D., Easton Publishing 1999.

if your to younge to understand what a fetus is.., its an unborn baby in development.
you should try to get your parents to talk her out of it.she will regret it and stop her from making a mistake.
