this goes with an explanation:

i rebooted my computer using the windows xp operating disc to clean out the computer to how it was when i first got it. the problem is, i messed up and rebooted it over the previous installation...meaning i didn't do a clean install. the reason i know this is because i look in my documents and settings folder and i have more folders than i should. you many know what i mean since i asked a similar question before about that. and they said that i have multiple accounts. i'm the only only user and have been so this means i have 6 folders worth of space to deal with. and they also said i installed windows over my previous one. i want to do a fresh install. wipe everything. but the question is how to do it. i never done this before and want to do it right. i did it by myself the first time and mucked up. so can you give me insight on what to click on or what to do to get a fresh install.

It depends on the computer make! Some systems can be restored to factory with the press of a key! HP for one.

Flashing or updating the BIOS gained't wipe out all the records on your HDD. in case you opt on to commence from scratch and restore the gadget again to the orig configuration (resembling the way you received the gadget the first time), you may do a sparkling set up via utilising the residing house windows XP. once you've a Dell, and the computer grow to be purcahsed after July of 2004, you should use workstation restore. once you've a diverse pc, attempt to call the producer and ask for concepts on a thanks to do a sparkling set up of residing house windows. this can wipe out each thing (which incorporates viruses if there are some, yet also which incorporates your records). solid success!

yeh you could format the hardrive but you will still need the windows disk, when booting up press F8 when you get a selection, choose the one that lets you have dos c prompt then when it has booted up just type in fdisk after the c:\ when it as run you have an empty harddrive i would not personally do it this way tho. lol get a disk then ask question again

First you should wipe the disk. Use something like DBAN Boot and Nuke.

After that then do the install and you will have a clean install.
