I recently bought a house with a nice big fenced in yard, I would like my dog to be active and go on walks and runs with me, I don't want a dog that sheds too much, I would like my dog to be a good guard dog and good with children. This dog would go to parks with me and camping as well (cold and hot weather)!

Best breed I can recommend to you would be the Labrador Retriever. Black lab, yellow lab, chocolate lab. They are very, very intelligent and are easy to train. Have great temperaments especially with children. You couldn't ask for a better dog all the way around. They truly are very loyal to their masters and families. Best to get one as a puppy so you can train him as you would like too. If you get an older dog, they are more set in their ways. It would be very difficult for you to try to change any thing that you don't like about him/her. Not saying that an older one isn't any good. It's just a very good idea to start with a puppy. Hope this helps!

That does sound like a golden retriever. You want a dog that falls into the "sporting breed". Almost all in that catogory will do what you want besides the guard dog stuff. (most dogs that can run with people are too small to be very good guard dogs. Most the dogs big enough to be guard dogs can't run with poeple.

Golden Retriever, Irish Setter, Brittney Spaniel, Greyhounds, Springer spanial. All really great all around dogs. There is a reason Golden Retrievers are so popular. They do everything really well!
