Do they raise your unweighted GPA more than normal classes or honors classes? Or do they just count for more weighted?

It's should have the same effect as honors classes...So it doesn't raise your unweighted GPA(unless you get an A which almost always raises your GPA unless you've literally been getting straight A's and in that case it maintains your GPA)

With weighted GPA, we've used to have the +1 for honors and AP.

AP classes don't change your unweighted GPA. That's why it's called your unweighted GPA. It doesn't count the extra boost that colleges give for AP classes.

Well, my prior experience in AP classes has involved a GPA boost of x1.1.

Honors classes meant nothing except that you will have generally intelligent people in your class, making the learning experience more enjoyable.
