I've heard several times from several sources that if you wear a girdle after birth, it helps with the excess stomach weight.

Any personal experiences with this anyone? Does it work?

It does not help you to lose pregnancy weight. That is a myth. What it DOES do is to help your skin shrink back to its original size more quickly. This is the same reason that plastic surgeons have their liposuction patients wear them after surgery.

I just had my son 4 weeks ago and i still have a small pooch and was thinking about getting a girdle too. I gained 44 pounds during my pregnancy and i have lost 27 lbs of it so far. I cant fit any of the clothes i wore before so far. I need to find out where i can get a good girdle from too. lol!

For some reason, it's not sounding like the healthiest choice to me. I have no experience with childbirth and I tried a girdle once - so uncomfortable I opted to go without. The only its going to do is give you the appearance of shedding the stomach weight.

Old wives tale. I'm 52 years old have been pregnant 10 times and given birth to 7 children. I weigh 120 lbs. flat stomach and no girdle...just sensible eating and reasonable exercise.

I don't know if thats all true or not. But I have extra skin any way from weight loss surgery and wear one as a general rule most of the time. Its been packed away for the past few months, but after birth I will be breaking it out again.

Wearing a girdle might hide the extra weight but it won't help lose any of it. You will need good old fashioned exercise for that my dear. Start counting crunches!

No, all that wearing a girdle does is suck in the fat. The only way to remove it is w/ exercise and diet.

I don't think a girdle helps. Cuz squeezing the life out of your fat isn't going to make it go away... exercise is a better answer.

My stomach muscles split and I know support made me more comfortable.

But if you really want your tummy back breastfeed. It has been shown that the uteruses of women who do not breastfeed never return to prepregnancy size.

'Baby's suckling helps shrink mother's uterus after childbirth
The uterus of the non-breastfeeding mother will never shrink back to its pre-pregnant size. It will always remain slightly enlarged.

"Nursing will help you to regain your figure more quickly, since the process of lactation causes the uterus (which has increased during pregnancy to about 20 times its normal size) to shrink more quickly to its pre-pregnancy size. "
