Wherever your interest lies. Even at 17 you can learn many types of dance. If you are into more technical dances just remember that you can train on your strength and flexibility as you progresses into the lessons.

It depends on what kind of music you listen to and what kind of dances you think are interesting. If i were you then I would probably start hip-hop dance, or I would dance Salsa or something like that.

depends what type of music do you like to listen to too. It might be it easier to dance if you not only like what you are doing but what you'll be doing it to.
hip hop and african dance and reggae go very well together
and ballet and jose limone type of modern go well together
jazz and funk go well together too
so if you like one you'll like the other.
I never was a fan of lyrical its a week mix of ballet and modern.
contemporary dance can mean anything
there are many many styles
check you tube. and look up the "pioneers of "blank" style.
that way you can view the pure form of it.

Any type. It depends on what you like and on what your goals are. Fitness? Fun? Future career? Dig around on youtube, look what classes are offered locally at your club or school, see what group do you like better and just try it. Only ten you will be able to desice if you like it or not.
Options are pretty much unlimited - ballet - hip-hop - bellydancing - ethnic dancing - ballroom - latin - modern - jazz - tap - lyrical - riverdance - flamenco

In addition to the previous answer...
Start a dance you're interested in: you can't do ballet if you like break-dancing and listen to hip-hop!
