Hurricane season June 1-Nov 30. We traveled in August to the Virgin Islands,it was very hot and humid. I think you will be okay to travel to the islands at that time. Purchase travel insurance. I would take the chance since all the islands in the caribbean could get hurricane at that time. You will have plenty of warning.
Be sure to take the ferry over to St John and if you have a chance take an excursion to the British Virgin Islands. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Have a great trip and don't worry.

I think hurricane season typically starts around April, and runs through at least September, sometimes into October, depending on weather trends.
My husband and I actually cruise every year during hurricane season, usually in some of the worst parts. Our anniversary is in September, and that's how we celebrate, for the last 4 years. Only one cruise was altered at all due to hurricanes (we lost a day, but we were compensated). One other year, we rode on the outskirts of the hurricane, but it didn't affect our vacation.
The year that we sailed by that hurricane, we went to St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Both were beautiful, and we were hardly affected by the hurricane. When we first arrived in the morning, it was a little dreary, but by the afternoon, it was cleared up and beautiful.
Whenever you travel to the caribbean during hurricane season, you're taking a chance, but in my opinion, it is some of the most beautiful land there is. I would imagine if you're there for a week or longer, that even if a hurricane is nearby, you're probably only going to notice for 1-2 days. And flying there isn't usually bad, because they can fly right over the top of them safely, and you barely notice.
I would say, if that's where you want to go, then go, because it is definitely worth it. The caribbean is beautiful, and worth the trouble!

The previous poster is correct. There is always a chance of hurricanes anywhere in the Caribbean during hurricane season. What I would recomend to you is trip insurance. Also, you are traveling in August. If you do a quickie research you will see all the hurricanes that have hit the Virgin Isands since the late 1980's to now have hit in the month Sept with the exception of one a few years back that hit in November.

all other posters are pretty much correct.
hurricane season is around the end of summer and early fall for us in the united states. So August is is pretty early in the season. Luckily though (knock on wood) st. thomas hasn't been hit hard for quite some time. They do get very large storms around this time though, which is something you might want to avoid.
St.Thomas is gorgeous, you'll really enjoy it I've been there many times. Hope all works out for you!

I've lived on St Thomas for 30 years, and yes, August is in hurricane season; but we've only been brushed by two in 30 years. There is always a chance, but then again there's a chance you'll be in a blizzard in Kansas City in December too.
Come on down.it's off season then so you'll won't feel crowded!

I would not go in August. My wife and I were there in September about 4 years ago and were caught in a hurricane that came up suddenly. No fun. Go in June or July.
