I heard somewhere (forget where) it may be dangerous to the baby. Is this true?

According this site it safe and mildly effective:

BUT The mayo clinc says this:
Some authors suggest that pregnant women should not take ginger in amounts greater than found in food (or more than 1 gram dry weight per day). There are reports that ginger can increase discharge from the uterus in menstruating women, and possibly lead to abortion, mutations of the fetus, or increased risk of bleeding. However, other reports state that there is no scientific evidence that ginger endangers pregnancy. Little scientific study is available in this area to support either perspective, although ginger has been studied in a small number of pregnant women (to assess effects on nausea), without reports of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Notably, this matter is sometimes confused because the use of ginger in pregnancy is discouraged in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), in which much higher doses of ginger may be used.

And this site as well:
Although ginger is commonly used for morning sickness during pregnancy, no major safety study on its use has been reported. Scattered studies in animals, however, point to ginger's potential harmful effects if used during pregnancy and caution against its use. http://www.uspharmacist.com/oldformat.asp?url=newlook/files/Comp/ginger2.htm&pub_id=8&article_id=77

Then this one said that there was no conclusive evidence that it was harmful:

So i would say don't take more then you would if you were using it to eat in food.

the midwife told me that ginger would help me get over the symptoms. I tried ginger tea, but it was too spicy for my liking. So I opted for ginger snap cookies and they worked great. Then after my stomach settled I went for the watermelon. The natural sugar in the watermelon helps you with the morning sickness also. good luck!
