Put of an ad in the grocery store or any other location where parents might visit (e.g. deli). Ask the manager is it's OK. Many locations have bulletin boards for this purpose.
If you know people with kids, just let 'em know you're available, if they want.

Put the word out to everyone you know. Tell them that you want to find work as a babysitter and have them in turn put the word out for you. You can also put up posters in supermarkets or community centers or even post an ad online.
However, some families are wary of babysitters with no prior experience, so if you have no prior paid experience, perhaps start out by volunteering your services to your family or friends first. If you do a good job, they will give you a reference and then you are on track to find other PAID babysitting jobs. Also, one other thing that might help- take a first aid class. Parents will feel much better knowing that their kids are in good hands and that if an emergency should happen, the babysitter is able to deal with it.
Good luck!

First, make sure you have taken a course through your local hospital on babysitting/CPR. This is something most parents require for a babysitter. Put up flyers at your local grocery store, department store, any store nearby that has a community bulletin board. Word of mouth works great too! Be sure to tell everyone you can that you'd be interested in babysitting!

I had my daughter make flyers and give them out at Church. I told her to volunteer to work in the nursery at Church and tell the mothers and fathers there that she was a baby sitter. That worked and she got several regular customers. Also, tell your Mother's and Dad's friends that you are available. But be careful, if you are given the choice, and you have to be driven home, asked for the lady to drive you home.
