why does my web site get big hits every 3am?

Is that the time every search site out there spiders it?
Or will a backup running give me hits?

most likely that is when a search engine spidered it just like you think.

when it's 3am where you are it's 3pm on the other-side of the planet.

go to http://www.time.gov/ and you'll see what parts of earth the sun is shining on and where it is dark at certain times.
