A heavy bench fell on my toe today, and turned it blue. The nurse said my toe nail is going to fall off. How long does it usually take for it to come off?... how long does it take for it to grow back?... and is it really painful?

it'll fall off when the skin underneath the nail forms a scab. then the nail will lose it's contact with the skin underneath, and you'll be able to clip it off like you would a normal nail. it doesn't hurt, but it'll look pretty gross for a while.

I assume you mean the school nurse? I would suggest you go to the ER and make sure you don't have a broken toe-- and that means an xray of the toe- and the nurse doesn't have xray vision- so either go to the er or see your gp who will then send you for an xray and either place can tell you that the nail will fall off within a week and the growth will depend on how fast your nails usually grow--- and it falling off is not painful BUT your toe will be vulnerable without the nail- meaning, if you stub it or bump it when it is without it's nail it will be very painful.

ya it'll probably fall off after some time between 20-30 days and it isn't going to hurt coz this happens gradually, bit by bit that you wont actually feel pain.. the new nail will actually start to grow before the old one falls off. After the bad one falls, you'll find underneath it a new but soft one and shall hardens after a while..
It might help your pain to relief (now) if you put it in a warm water for 10-15 minutes every day.

I had a desk fall on my big toe and it didn't hurt when I lost the nail. Usually 3-6 months, depending on a person's ability to heal.

it will take time to fall off like one month on more and after that it might grow back also takes time drink plenty of milk and eat food full of calcium
