Red Robin has the best chain restaurants burgers- and the fries are excellent and plentiful- should you need that much potato in your body.
As for fast food, Burger King is evil and should only be served with Pepto Bismol or Immodium. Wendy's does good ones- square is better, I guess.
We also have a place in CT called Five Guys- very good burgers- hard place to come by, though....

I had this awesome burger in this tex-mex restaurant in the middle of nowhere in Ohio. Sorry I can't be more specific. I don't remember the name of the town.
Otherwise, as far as a national chain, I go to Red Robin for burgers...yummy.
And fast food, although I love McDonald's french fries, I much prefer a Whopper from Burger King. It doesn't much matter where because they taste the same wherever I go.

I would have to say Red Robin. My favorite burger is the Whiskey River BBQ Burger. It is loaded with bbq sauce, cheese and onion straws. To boot, I don't eat red meat but this is the one and only place I will eat a hamburger at. I love it! It is in Wheatridge, Colorado. Gotta try it if you are in Colorado.

Prince Castle in Sterling and Dixon Illinois. A regional chain that is sadly no longer in business.
They used to grill onions on request.
MMMMM.

BK Whoppers are good.
I think I still associate them from the day I first tasted one. A hot day when my kitchen at home was too hot to cook in, so we went out.
