Scientology - really it's inception was jumping the shark, but they moved on to shark training with Tom Cruise.

Oprah - she did okay until she started having twenty different topics in one show and became an advertiser to all kinds of things.

Just the two that came to mind.

'Jump the shark' is actually a 'technical term' used in 'television' for the 'show' that tries something 'completely new and different,' usually because the show was 'getting old' and it's going to go off in a 'new direction' ... When Buffy the Vampire Slayer did their 'musical' was a good example of 'Jumping the Shark' because it both 'caught us up' on who did what to whom and why, and also 'laid out' at least some of the 'new direction' the show was heading. The 'shark' is the 'dangerous area' in which many shows simply 'die' and are not 'renewed', while 'jumping it' is doing exactly that ... doing 'something different' that will hopefully 'save the show' ...
