I do not care what main stream media says, this has been the coldest winter we have had in 20 yrs. (Texas). My bud lives in Oklahoma and its snowed more this winter there than it ever has in his lifetime (he is 46). Parts of the upper mid west are right now experiencing record low temps, and I understand that Russia is also experiencing the same. Oh yeah I forgot Gore said that Global warming may mean colder winters. HA HA HA!!!

Not all scientist agree that humans cause it and im sure your research consists of what CNN has to say about it.

again there are many scientist who disagree that G.W. is caused by humans its just that CNN refuses to run stories on them. I wonder why.

Elizabeth you are wrong and time will prove me right. 10 years ago we were told that catastrophe was comming by 2000 if we did nothing. I denied it then as I do now.

I agree with you to the extent that the hoopala being raised - based on the recent warming trend - that we humans are about to cook ourselves to death is a crock, and that we have to shut down our economy to prevent it. The real question is not if the earth is warming (it has been for about 20 years), but if human activity is causing it; specifically, activity in "1st world" countries.

May I offer a few observations that I consider relevant?

1. The earth has been going through climate changes ever since Hector was a pup. A thousand years ago Greenland was so warm they were growing strawberrys. It's rumored that the Vikings didn't have SUVs. 20,000 years ago Chicago was under a mile of ice. (Maybe it was only 1/2 mile, but you get the point.)

2. 25 years ago the same crowd that is yelling about the coming apocalypse of global melt-down was yelling about the coming apocalypse of global cooling. If these yahoos (no pun intended) don't have something to yell about they just don't feel right about themselves.

3. There is no - I repeat, NO! - consensus among scientists that there this is a warming trend that we can do anything about. If we reduced our greenhouse gas output to zip, it would make a difference of about 1/4 degree Celsius over the next century.

4. Developing countries are tossing so much soot into the atmosphere (China is building a coal-fired electrical generation plant big enough to power San Diego, every 10 days) that our meager efforts to stem pollution will be useless. And they are exempt from the Kyoto protocol.

5. The U.N.'s study on global warming is a product of 129 nations that don't much like modernization or the U.S. But we know the U.N. to be an honorable and trustworthy outfit, right?

6. George F. Will, Newsweek, 2/12/07, sums it up pretty well: Was life better when a sheet of ice a mile thick covered Chicago? Was it worse when Greenland was so warn that Vikings farmed there?

7. Your observation that Texas, Oklahoma, Russia, etc. are experiencing record cold may be signaling that "global warming" has ended. Ain't it wonderful that the powers that be have solved the problem so quickly?

Have a nice day!

You're actually quite an idiot.

No media slant on this, just scientific reports - global warming is a fact.

If you choose to find out reason to not believe in it, why don't you just find reasons not to believe in your teeth and stop eating.

I wouldn't expect you to understand why colder warmers are indicative of global warming. It's obvious you are too simple minded - warm means warm. It couldn't possibly be that global warming means the average year round temperature of the Earth is going up, and that there still are cold times. And yes, the melting polar caps increase sea level, changing the ocean currents, making winters colder.

Global warming is sort of a misleading term. Climate change is much better. It can cause extreme warming and cooling in different parts. And almost the entire scientific community on the subject agree that it is real and humans are contributing to it. But I'm sure your research would be very interesting to see as well.

I'm not sure it's "a bunch of bull", but I'm not sure humans are responsible for it either. Earth has had many hot and cold spells over the eons, most of them long before humans came on the scene, even if you consider an australiopithicene ape human. Humans would like to think we're powerful enough to change the world, but it's probably just wishful thinking (or an ego trip!) on our part.

There is a consensus that global warming exists. There is even probabaly eveidence that man is contributing to it. What is totally up for interpretation are the causes of it.

They have identified up to a dozen factors that could be causing it either individually or in combinations.

Are you really Dubya? Only he and his cronies who make loads of money from oil still hold out that the climate hasn't been affected by greenhouse gasses. The media has nothing to do with it, the consensus among reputable scientists is that the climate has been affected. The oil company spin doctors who have degrees in marketing are the 'scientists' who deny it.

This old world is experienced at having cycles. Here the saying still goes, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.

Won't be here for the next Ice Age. I won't have a panic attack over it.

Its called Global Warming because that is the major effect, however it can cause other climate changes such as coldness, drought or other freak weather occurences.
