Me and my friend just got a new job at a restaurant and the restaurant just opened up a month ago, and the employees that started a month before us arent bein very welcoming-2 in particular. Her and her friend talk about us whenever we mess up on the register or write the order wrong. We just started! We are still learning! They constantly whisper and I am starting to become very very upset. What do I do?

I agree with the previous poster. You aren't being bullied. The primary reason they are being gossipy, etc....is probably because they are afraid you'll do better than them and show them up.

So show up each day with a positive attitude and do your best. Believe me, your boss will notice and you will make them look bad without being mean to them :))) (And that's the best part!)

Talk to your supervisor, tell him or her what is happening. No there is no requirement that anybody likes you, but the restaurant needs to work as a TEAM and what these people are doing is forming cliques. If what you are doing is NOT affecting their work they need to keep there mouths shut. If it IS, the way to handle it is to go to the supervisor, not gossip and whisper. This is very unprofessional on their part, definitely let your supervisor know what is going on.

Just remember, these people were new at one point, and confused too. So when they are whispering, they are being very disrespectful and immature.
If this is really starting to annoy you, casually bring it up to your boss some time. Or, calmly remind them that they were once new as well and you will soon catch on, and you're very sorry that you aren't as experienced as them yet.
You and your friend have done nothing to deserve this. Ignore these people. They are wasting your time.

I work in the restauraunt industry..I mean the real restauraunt industry, not fast food chains.. Let me just say, being the only woman in a kitchen full of testosterone driven men, it ain't easy..
You have to be strong, and build a wall up against you..
Part of being in a kitchen, is to deal with a whole lot of b.ullshi t,
which means people teasing and picking on you, because?
I dunno why, they say it makes time go by faster..

One person where I work, who is a guy..the other cooks constantly are very cruel with all kinds of bad jokes, calling the kid gay, insulting him..etc.. He just doesn't respond..he ignores it..
When they bother me, I choose not to respond..I go by the motto, 'I'm not here to make friends, and socialize.I'm here to make money.' When I don't respond they tease me about being quiet,,I contnue to do my work ,and only talk if I need to..
Just, you have to be strong.. When these people sense weakness, they feed on that more..and it fuels their fire..

I hate bullies at work. I think that you can either *pretend* to join them to get them to fake-like you enough to cut this out or get them in trouble with your boss. I would go with the pretending to befriend them, on the off-chance that they are nice people and you form a real friendship and to get them to quit their behavior. Getting them in trouble is really not a good option... negative behavior will only bring you more frustrations. Good luck.

Well, based on my experience, people like that are incredibly insecure and need to make fun of others to make themselves feel good. Try to ignore them. If that doesn't work and you don't want to confront them, you can always go to your manager. I totally understand where you are coming from hon. Just hang in there. Stand up for yourself!

Get over it! You're going to find that kind of stuff no matter where you work, so you just do you best and let the rest go! You'll probably out last them anyway!! LOL

QUIT!! It's only a restaurant job... not a career!! And do it abruptly, leaving the whisperers having to do all the work themselves.

How immature. Keep doing your job the best you can. It will eventually catch up with them and they will be out of there.

well, I think you should confront them and ask them what the problem is. and most likely they will tell you. and you dont want to do that than just act like they aren't there. and then they are gonna want to know you.
