I have now taken 4 home pregnancy tests and all have confirmed 'positive.' However, I went to the doctor yesterday and the urine came back 'negative.' They ran a blood test and it came back 'positive' but with very low number for the hormone. If I am pregnant, I am probably 2-3 weeks at most. Is this number due to the 'early' pregnancy or is something else going on? I have to recheck blood in a week. Just never heard of such a thing...either you are 'pregnant' or you are 'not.' Help!!! Waiting and wondering...anybody else ever experience this??

Thank you all for your replies/comments. They were so helpful and helped ease my mind. I took someone's advice and insisted that the doctor recheck my blood today...48 hours later instead of waiting 1 week!! I'll see if my score went up tomorrow and will keep you posted!! Thanks again.

A low number could mean an early pregnancy or a pregnancy that is not developing correctly.

The best way to find out is to take a test 2 days later and see if the BhCG is going up. There are women who start with very low numbers and go on to have healthy pregnancies...

Good luck!

When i got pregnant with my oldest daughter, I had no idea I was pregnant. I wasn't even trying! I was sick and had went to the doctor for some antibiotics. They asked me if there was a chance that I could be pregnant. Three nights before, I had sex, so I said 'yes'. My hcg level came back with a low score of 8. They told me either I had miscarried or I was very early in my pregnancy. I had to get another blood test in a few days. My levels went up and I was officially pregnant. The funny thing was I got pregnant three days prior to that test so I know exactly when I concieved. Think positive! Did you have sex a few days prior to this blood test? Good Luck!!!

I am going through the exact same thing....got call today from doctor's office, saying that the blood test taken yesterday is showing a very low number (12). My period is also 4 days late. I am having another blood test done tomorrow to see if number increases or not. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does...i've been trying to concieve for 6 months. I, too am very concerned about such a low number.

Yes, I had that experience.

Levels are supposed to double every 24 or 48 hours, I can't remember. My numbers only went up about 1/4 from what they were. Doc told me baby wouldn't make it, the pregnancy wasn't viable...... just wait it out, but you will probably miscarry.

I was not going to accept this answer! I now have a 2 1/2 year old daughter.

You are early into pregnancy. Retest next week. Pray every day.

I bet it's just early pregnancy. Many times the urine tests that clinics use are not as sensitive as the ones that you can buy over the counter and test early. I'm suprised that your doctor is makeing you wait another week for a test instead of doing one in two days to see if the number has doubled or not.
Honestly, I bet you're just fine.

I got a borderline result with my first blood test with this pregnancy. I thought it was either a yes or no thing too but apparently not. It was because I was so newly pregnant. I am now 24 weeks and doing alright (other health problems but baby is perfect). Good luck

it's because of how early you are! don't worry, everything will be fine. if the docs were worried, they would do way more testing than what they have ordered!
