My computer keeps freezing up. It only seems to do it while I'm surfing the internet, and it doesn't matter what site I'm on. Right before it freezes, it will always make the sound like plugging or unplugging something from the USB port 3 or 4 times. After that, the computer comes to almost a complete standstill. If I'm able to get into the Task Manage and over to the performance tab, the CPU usage will be stuck at 100%. What is causing my computer to do this? Does it mean that:
A)I have a virus or spyware?
B)I am being hacked?
C)Something on my computer is going out?
D)Other?

Usually when it freezes up, I'll only have IE and AIM up, so it's not like I'm trying to run 1000 things at once.

I just had spyware in my list of possible causes to see how many people would blame it on that. I've never had a problem with spyware/adware on this computer, not so much as one off the wall program installed or pop-up add. So, Mr. Probably Infested to the Hilt, you can go get bent.

My first guess is you are infested to the hilt with adware and spyware! Next is you may simply have too many applications running in the background! Some people dont understand memory in a PC. They think that they can run everything but the kitchen sink and the PC should run smoothly! If you have all your ram being used to run apps, its bound to freeze up!

After interpreting all those different solutions, it exceeded off to me that the difficulty would ok don't have to any extent further some thing to do with the OS, viruses, or any of that different nonsense. only positioned, it would want to probable be a subject matter reminiscent of what I had your time in the past. i develop into experiencing an similar hassles, the in common words ingredient i might want to do develop into to close it down and attempt again later Lo and behold, i wanting to get a better hardpersistent sometime, I put in it and the difficulty disappeared. WHY? It seems that the difficulty develop into that the HDD develop into at fault. A techie advised me after testing it, that a capacitor (a thingie that holds a fee for a particular length of time) interior the HDD develop into no longer functioning and for this reason it develop into overheating and closing itself down. answer: Get yet another HDD, installation the OS, installation all of your backups and/or reinstall any classes or video games you pick. countless labor, yet having said that, a comp. is in common words a piece of hardware, it would want to and does destroy down via no fault of your own. ;-)

are any other programs running besides the internet? scan for a virus/spyware. also, try cleaning up your computer a bit. get rid of temp internet files, cookies, and history. also, try checking your drive for errors, defrag, and disk clean up - all found by right-click on your c drive and going to properties then tools. good luck!

Use Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.org/) to see if its hardware or software. If the Live CD works just fine, then you're looking at a Microsoft Windows software problems. You can either upgrade straight away to Linux or re-install Windows from your original CD.
If the Live CD freezes up too, then you're looking at a hardware issue - possibly overheating.

Look what process is using the processor. Anyway, it looks like a bad driver to me. Try to get the latest versions, especially for the newer hardware that you have.
