~~~naoize,,,,"Fair",,, compared to what? The blacks have been oppressed in America since the slave trade. The Constitution and Bill of Rights didn't seem to be honored by The Ruling Class, even Thomas Jefferson,,, The Emancipation Proclaimation surely didn't serve it's intended purpose 150 years later,,,, The Civil Rights of the 1960's, almost 50 years ago, still hasn't reach it's Maturity,,,,Still worried about a simple Month of Recognition?,,,fyi; I am a blue eyed white and NOT an Apologist for Blacks. Nor am I an Apologist for the Shortcomings of American History. Blacks represent the largest population, second only to whites,,, therefore they have more Political Influence. Now if you think "Politics is Fair" in the USA then you are severely deluded..
If you actually take time to browse, read, or ask and listen, you would know that other races and cultures do have their own months. We also have months for certain diseases and illnesses, so is it fair to single out the diseases people think are more important? Is is fair that Breast Cancer gets it's own awareness month, but Sickle Cell Anemia doesn't? I'm glad there is an awareness month for diseases, but just a month? Why can't it just be total awareness all year? And why not give months to other diseases, especially ones that affect children ?
what colour are you talking about I'm assuming that you're talking about BLACK people right. so are you telling that ill-treating a person simply because they're of a different nationality, colour vulnerable and uncivilized is right (that's what the British and Americans did during slave trade) if they had not done that then no day would be dedicated to a people of a certain colour. that wasn't racist was it
Oh, gimmee a break. No other race has had to endure what
African-Americans have had to go through in this country. First slavery, then another hundred years of being put down and discriminated against and your history never told in the white history books. They deserve a month to celebrate who they are and their contributions to America.
NO it's not fair, but who said life is fair?
We should have a month for White history, Indian American History... as well.
We don't need any other period!!!
It's only fair if peoples of other nationalities/races/skin colors get their own month as well. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, right?
No, it's not fair. Politics are not fair, it's about who can scream the loudest, who carries the biggest stick, and who has the biggest bag of gold.
