The Tiffany ring is just over 1ct and costs about the same as a 2ct from Zales.

Tiffany.
1. Settings are better. (more stylish, well made, etc.)
2. Excellent documentation re: diamond's quality.
3. Romantic association. (No one proposes at Zales or features Zales in a movie, etc.)

If you want to save some $, never mind Zales. Consider bluenile.com.

I have a friend in the wholesale jewelry business & she says they have strict standards w/ prices that are hard to beat.

BTW, don't waste your money on a plain wedding band from Tiffany. Wedding bands are pretty much all the same & Tiffany carries the plain ones just because people want them.

If I were getting an engagement ring, it wouldn't matter what store it came from or how much it cost. Some rings are absolutely beautiful and only a couple of hundred dollars. It's what comes from Your HEART that matters the most. To have taken the time to look at engagement rings (there are so many to choose from, white gold, yellow gold, the setting of the diamond or diamonds..) and knowing in Your Heart..."That Is the ring" for your girl to propose with....that should be all that matters* Go with what your heart tells you*~ Best Wishes*

Personally, I'd buy a ring with a stone such as an emerald or ruby, because they are worth more than a diamond. Diamonds are more abundant than stones like sapphires, so you'll get more for your money when buying a ring that has a precious stone. The only reason diamonds seem rare is because the diamond company DeBeers has a monoply on most of the gem diamonds in the world. Plus, people in Sierra Leone and other African countries are getting their limbs chopped off because of these rocks. Just a little side note.

If she is set on a diamond ring though, I agree with an above poster who said shop around. There are better jewelry stores than Zales, and they are more affordable than Tiffany's.

I used to think the bigger the better. My fiance gave me a beaufiul 1 carat for our anniversary. He actually went to a diamond dealer. There's a certification and lazer imprint in the diamond. I never really cared about the three c's before, but he put lots of time in the search. At Tiffany's you're going to get a fabulous diamond, but are paying for the little blue box. Go to an independant dealer who is going to show you papers on each diamond, let you pick out the one you want and the setting it goes in. You'll get a 2 carat nearly flawless diamond for the price you'd pay for that little blue box. Make sure it's a certified diamond. Do not buy from a mall store.

Also, I have gone weeks without cleaning my ring and the sparkle on it is brilliant and catches beautiful light.

Good luck and congrats in advance!!

Also, I get compliments everywhere I go on my ring.

I would prefer the ring from Tiffany's...quality over quantity I always say when it comes to certain things. If you have not gotten it yet or put a payment down for the ring to be held try looking at the 1 ct. ascher cut in the legacy setting in platinum from Tiffany's. I personally love that style and it is what my ring is only mine is a little bigger and has a canary diamond but you get the jist of things. A ring from Tiffany's would make her feel really special and like you put a lot of thought into it versus getting her a mall ring from some store that has shitty customer service and is just after your money for their commission.

Bigger stone... bigger is better, right? Also, my husband went for a slightly smaller stone than what he could afford to get a flawless qaulity- brownie points there!!! Unless she only cares about what the magazines her I would think the bigger prettier ring would mean more than a name, unless the ring comes with a banner floating over her head that says "it's from Tiffany's" who would know anyway?

I go for sparkle every time. What good is a huge diamond if has no sparkle in it? As far as the setting- that's personal preference- but my ring has 3 smaller diamonds to represent the past, present and the future. Have fun shopping!

Go for the 2 carats. Tiffany diamonds aren't so much better. Check the grade and cut, if they're close to the same, don't pay a ton for the little blue box.
