What do I do? My daughter when she was a baby slept 2 hours every afternoon. I don't understand how he can stay up ALL day! I have to be next to him also or he cries. How do I get him to take longer naps? When he naps IF he does it's or ten minutes or less.

They say not to try too hard to get your baby into a napping routine. My daughter would take 2 30 or 45 mins naps, never hour long ones until recently. Perhaps at that time of day there's just too much going on for him to really relax. Or maybe he's overtired, which creates a fussy baby refusing to nap (my daughter was like that). What I did: made the room as dark as possible, played lullabies on a cd and patted her back/butt for a short period of time. Worked like a charm. Now when she rubs her face I know it's nap time and I lay her down with her binky and blanket, play some music or sing if I don't have any with me and she's out...I don't have to pat her or anything. Just a suggestion. Check out babycenter.com they may have some other suggestions as well. Hope this helps some and best of luck!

Best answer is you are going to have to let her decide that. She will soon get into a sleep habit, and you'll be able to tell when she will be ready. My daughter is now 8 months old and was on a similar time schedule. She started off napping around 1 and then again around 6. For the past few months, she wakes up around 7:00, and is ready for a good (2 hours) nap around 10 or so. I usually put her down again around 3 or 4. This nap isn't as long as the first, but still a good hour. Try to pay attention to when she is getting tired, it'll start being the same time each day. Plan a feeding about 30 minutes before that. She'll have a nice full belly and will be ready for a nice snooze. Good luck!!

my son was the same way at 3 months he took cat naps through out the day, and was happy and alert. he did sleep 12 hours every night so I figure he got enough rest. he is 13 months now and wakes up several times a night, but takes two 1 1/2 hour naps during the day.
and he also wanted to be close at all times but now he loves to explore

My baby is 3.5mths and he doesn't take long naps either. His naps usually last 20min-half hour. He'll nap longer if I'm next to him. So what the heck, I end up sleeping with him and have a good rest as well. He sleeps well at night though. So if your son sleeps well at night, I think it's ok.

Try a little rice cereal in his bottle to up the calories and he'll be more likely to nap. Make sure that his night sleep isn't affected by not letting him nap too late in the evening.

i have a 3 month old also she's usually awake at the babysitters all day so by th etime i pick her up on the way to the house she falls alseep and wakes up aboit an hour after and then stays awake until 9-9:30PM and sleeps through the night so as long as she sleeps at night let her be awake all day if she can. maybe she doesnt feel like sleeping let her be she's her own person and baby's know what they want

try a warm bath and a bottle. if you get the baby warm then cold and then warm aging, and a nice warm bottle he should go to sleep. it worked with mine, the both never slept, at anytime.
if that dont work put the baby in her bed and let her cry, seems mean but the baby will know that mommy wants her to ake that nap.
good luck
