It is a phenomenon called "reaction formation." It is meant to defend a person's fragile ego from those homosexual thoughts. When we have a reaction that is too painful, threatening, or unacceptable (for us) to feel (such as homosexuality), we turn it into the opposite (being a homophobe). That way, we aren't threatened by the feeling, or even the awareness of the feeling.

I saw a docu on a study done on homophobes and men who could care less. They attached receptors to their privates, put on gay porn and watched the results. The homophobes got erections watching the gay porn and the men who didn't care didn't. Just goes to show you that the homophobes are actually closet homosexuals who probably didn't realize it, but deep down knew and are very scared of it.
And I don't think that homosexuals should have to hide, like the 2nd responder said. Why is a lesbian acceptable and a gay man isn't? That's a double standard.

First, they're anti-self, suffering from a lack of self-love and acceptence. They're cowards. Prefering to be unhappy for society sakes rather than face realities of their own homosexuality. They play the game of denial, lashing out ot gay people thinking that will make them stonger and will "kill'' their desires for their own sex! Going to gay bars and such means accepting their own fate so prostitution gives them untangible and unnatural satisfaction.

Don't get me wrong - I adore lesbians - but why the F do gay people make such a big deal about being G? Take, for instance, the former New Jersey governor - cheats on his wife then publicly (selfishly) "comes out" ... The GodDmn issue wasn't his homosexuality - what about the F fact that he cheated on his wife? Just plain old cheated. During the entire marriage. Even cheated on her when she was pregnant! And then the MF makes himself the God of gay people... and goes on book tours.. etc... Why the F did the gay community not "come out" against this Fker and support his wife? Sht, being gay is not the Fking issue of the moment. Anti-gay bias will continue because any deviations from "normal" sex takes us ever so closer to the proposition that mommy and daughter, or mommy and son, or son and, well you get my drift, is permissible. Think about it - if we can open and accept this tabboo (homosexuality), then where to draw the line? Who draws it? Why? How do we decide?
Please, accept gay bashers and go screw, love, whatever your boyfriend. Just don't advertise the fact to the world.

let me tell u a little something about homophobes. people that hate gays is because they themselves feel unsure of there sexuality. and I'd say about 87% of them end up fully gay or bisexual or wish to act on there feeling but are to afraid to do so. look, if there gay let them be, in the end the problem will be between them and god. don't judge unless u are judged. and try to be tolerate and accept them as people and fellow humans.
