First of all you can't have free www.example.com and if you want to buy a domain, you have to pay for it. You can use Yahoo Webhosting for that.

For free hosting:-

Since this is yahoo, try Yahoo Geocities or Google Page Creator. Just take some time to read some of their tutorials. They are both decent web page creators. Geocities is better because it has been around longer. Google Page Creator is still in beta.

Owning a website like yourname.com takes some experience and knowledge. And you have to be able to enter into a contract to own a domain. And you need to comprehend HTML and Javascript. The ability to make graphics on your own.

First TRY www.GEOCITIES.com/

1)Free
2)Easy to use
3)online tools like page builder
4)counter
5)guestbook
6)You can upgrade at anytime to your own domain
7)web address like geocities.com/YOURYAHOOID
8)15mb of space

That depends on the url and what you have access to.

If you don't mind having a subdomain name url like:

guido.yahoo.com

Then it can be done totally for free. You just sign up for a freehosing account like the ones listed in the other answer and you are all set.

If you want to have an actual domain name of you own (like www.guido.com), you need to purchase an available domain name from a registrar like godaddy or 1+1, etc. Usually a domain name is like $5-7 per year. That is really cheap and if you skip a meal at McDonalds once a year, you're all set.

If you do use free hosting like one of the ones listed above, you just re-direct your domain name to the url of the free hosing site. So when someone goes to www.guido.com they are automatically re-directed to yahoo.guido.com. Some even mask the redirection so the only way they know you are on a free hosting account site without reading the code are the ad banners that the free hosts put in your site.

If you have a highspeed internet connection at your home and a decent old PC laying around, you can set up your own webserver and serve small web pages at little to no cost. If you look through the answers I have provided to others, you will see most of the details of that.

Good Luck

There are several free websites if you want to set up a personal website.

If you want your domain name, you have to register it with an domain name server. This is not free, but it is relatively inexpensive.
