I go through days where I have an odor "down there" then it's gone...then I will be itchy for a day, then that will go away...is that normal? Does a yeast infection just go away? Does any smell at all mean you have an infection? Is itching once in a while normal? Would the smell be "inside" you or just on your panties? And how can you tell if the smell is "bad" or just "normal"???

Yes this is normal, yes it could be a yeast infection, yes they can just go away, yes itching is normal, and no not all smells mean you have an infection. The smell is coming from your insides in the form of usually a discharge (normal) and then that discharge gets on your panties.

You PH balance of the vagina can cause this (normal). If the itching gets to be too much you can go buy the ointment Vagasil and place the cream where it's itching, they now make medicated wipes they work well. The odor is usually a "fishy" smell is usually an indication of yeast and constant itch inside and out, you can use Monastat for this. Be careful of the soap your using and make sure you rinse your vaginal area well with warm clear water and using a pantyliner will help keep you fresh. I hope I answered all your questions. If you are EVER in doubt contact your doctor.

It might be a good idea to check with a doctor, just to rule out infection. I don't know how common it is for yeast infections to just go away, but I used to get them right before my period and they'd be gone within a couple of days of starting it.

The itching might also be related to a detergent or soap you're using, or even clothes that you're wearing. Cotton or other natural fibers are best because they'll wick away moisture before it can breed bacteria. If you're wearing synthetics, particularly tight synthetics, you might be getting irritated. Also, scented products might be a problem. Maybe try switching to an unscented detergent and don't use soap down there, just warm water. Also, don't use those scented panyliners or pads, and don't use "feminine hygiene" products- usually, they just cause worse problems (douche is bad!!).

I could never figure out the scent thing myself, since my sense of smell is appallingly bad. If it doesn't smell like you, that may mean a problem. You'll smell down there normally, and that may change a bit during your cycle. Switch out your products and check with your doctor.
