It really isn't as wild a question as it appears!
Canada did away with dollar bills years ago, a five dollar bill is the lowest denomination in currency. They have a one dollar coin called a "Loonie" for the loon on back of it and a two dollar coin, called a "twonie" or "toonie". It's actually quite effective, and when you have a pocket full of change, you might actually have a good amount of money!

I know the U.S. has toyed with one dollar coins, but never really taken off. I wouldn't mind seeing it do so.

They are being circulated constantly. I have a few in my wallet right now. If anything gets withdrawn, it's probably going to be the poor lowly penny. They just get stashed up in peoples coin banks until they take them to the Coin Star machine and trade them in for dollar bills.

I got one that had a message on it to contact a "Where's George " web site if you got the Bill so that Mr Washington 's travels could be logged. Which was a lot nicer than an Italian Lira bill I got with something written on it ,which turned out to be a curse that read that if I didn't forward the note plus several others like it to a "church" post office box I would suffer persecution and bad luck always. I got rid of it and have had bad luck financially ever since.

They're still circulating. I don't think they'll ever be withdrawn. They talk about getting rid of the penny.

By 'america', do you mean North America, or the United States of America???

North America - no - Canada uses a dollar coin and a two dollar coin.

They are still alive and well. Some of them are even beginning to speak, I think it might have something to do with all of the organisms that are living on them.
