I'm 18 years old and i'm finishing high school. I can't really go out and get a "real" job right now, so until then I need to find things I can do to make money so that I can put gas in my car and pay the cell phone bill. Plus have extra money for other things. Have any ideas? Maybe there are services I can offer or something else?

Do you know what your long term plans are for the future? For example, are you thinking about college (what subject?) or do you have a definate career idea? If you are taking a gap year from college, you can do any job so long as it pays (and is legal!). How about shop work or a job in a theatre/cinema? These types of jobs have a fast turnover of staff so you will definately find a job. You can gain valuable experience and skills from these jobs as well.

If you don't plan on going to college, why not try to get your foot on the ladder of the career that you want? I understand that you are only 18 and want to have fun for a few years but it doesn't hurt to take a tiny step in the direction you want to go!

I don't know what facilities are avavilable in your area but maybe you should have a chat with an adviser at school or at an employment centre. They can help you decide what to do AND ensure that you don't get taken advantage of in your job. Good luck! And enjoy yourself!

I just re-read your question.....by saying that you can't get a real job, does that mean you can't get official salaried work through a company/business?

You could get local work in your community I guess. Babysitting, gardening, helping out your neighbours, car-washing etc. Just use your imagination!

You certainly can get a "Real" job. You don't have to make a career out of it or anything. I had a job when I was 16, and still in High School. You can get a job at a restaurant. Tips are good and you only work evenings so you won't miss any school.

There's no reason you can't get a retail job. Lots of kids at your school have real jobs.

get a job at a fast food place a couple hours a week. nothing at all wrong with that. or any job. like at a store or an office -- anything.

you could babysit as well, but you'd probably make more money at a fast food place.

you can only offer services if someone is willing to pay you for them.

maybe if you explain why you can't get a real job -- we can help you out a little better.

You could...

babysit

Create a sheet with little tear numbers on it offering your services for odd jobs and listing your rate per hour

If you're crafty, create things you can sell on ebay, or a personal online website.

Work at a gym center in the children's room (not only do you get paid for this, you can often get community service points)

YOU CAN HOUSEKEEP, DETAIL CARS, BABYSIT, SELL AVON/MARY KAY, SELL CD'S, EBAY.

BEST BET: (MORNING/DAY/NIGHT) YOU CAN WORK PART TIME AT A STRIP CLUB AS A WAITRESS, THEY MAKE BIG BUCKS FOR A MIN. OF 4 HOURS & IT IS NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE MAKE IT OUT TO BE, YOU JUST SERVE DRINKS. I WORK AT ONE & THE BIGGEST TIP I EVER GOT WAS $150 FOR ONLY SERVING 3 DRINKS. YOU CAN ALSO BE A "DOOR GIRL" WHICH PAYS PRETTY GOOD TO BUT YOU HAVE TO BE THERE FROM LIKE 7PM-2PM DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE AND YOU JUST DO THE CASHIER AND I MADE $100 A DAY IN TIPS DOING THAT ON TOP OF MY BASE PAY

Why can't you get a real job? You're 18. That's old enough. It's time to grow up and learn some responsibility.

I hear that ( believe it or not ) that McDonalds has very good pay. And if you dont work very many hours you could probably do some work for your parents or neighbors or something.

Baby sit or offer to walk peoples dogs. I don't know where you live but you can offer to shovel snow off peoples driveways. You can go to Assisted Living Homes for the Elderly and offer to run them to do their grocery shopping, pick up their dryclean, etc. Good Luck!

If you really live in the mountains you can be a tour guide, or even better a whitewater rafting guide. Did that one summer and it was a blast.
