The furnace is electronic ignition and the clicking continues while the burners ignite. After several seconds the clicking stops and the burners go out. I have to turn the thermostat to 90 degrees in order for the burners to stay lit. As I turn the thermostat down to 70 degrees or less the burners go out and the problem repeats itself. The blower comes on with no problem

I would say that turning the furnace to 90 has nothing to do with getting the furance lit, but keeps it going once it does light. I think your problem is the flame sensor. Here is the series of events: the thermostate calls for heat; the blower starts to make sure air is travelling across the burners and out the flue; a sensor checks to make sure that happened; the ignitor starts sparking; the gas valve opens; the flame sensor checks to see the burners are fully lit. If the sensor is bad, the gas valve shuts off to make sure you aren't pumping raw gas into your house.
Depending on the brand of furnace, these really aren't too hard to replace. But, you should probably consult a heating contractor.

Your furnace probably has a dirty flame sensor. The clicking you hear is the electronic spark trying to ignite the gas even after the gas is lit. The clicking continues because the dirty flame sensor isn't sensing the flame. Your best bet would be to contact a heating contractor. It is a simple fix and should not cost you over $100 total . Make sure they clean your existing flame sensor and not try to sell you a new one. Good luck!!

You should call either your landlord or a repair man. Get the problem fixed.

you might have a problem with the electonic ignition.might need replaced.or it could be the sail switch. it really isn't a major problem to fix but i would have it looked at.
